Financial Counseling Specialist

Overview This position pays between $18.65 - $19.90 per hour based on experience. The role is onsite at Tower - Pottstown Hospital in Pottstown, PA. The Inpatient Financial Counseling Specialist performs benefit education and validation, including face‑to‑face review of inpatient benefits, authorization, and collection of inpatient, observation, and outpatient liabilities. The specialist validates patient liabilities, collects payments, and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements. Job Responsibilities Assess and collect patient liabilities such as copays, deductibles, co‑insurance, and balances after financial assistance. Determine patient insurance and financial information to establish liability. Conduct face‑to‑face communication with patients during their stay to collect estimated liability. Work with patient access, insurance eligibility, and follow‑up reports as assigned. Facilitate daily in‑house call reviews to validate valid payer source and authorization. Complete pre‑registration and registration tasks, including registration at time of service. Monitor missed collection opportunities for process improvements and follow‑up. Make at least three attempts each day to visit a patient’s room if the patient was pre‑occupied, and note all accounts with liability. Make follow‑up phone calls and send letters to patients post‑discharge detailing estimated liability and payment options. Assist eligibility specialists with insurance verification, Medicaid and charity processing, and related tasks. Run a daily census to identify patients with potential eligibility. Organize outpatient orders related to future and current dates of service using revenue cycle systems. Required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. 1+ year of customer service experience. Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR) within six months of hire (company‑paid). Additional Requirements Must be inquisitive and open to innovation, including AI to improve processes. Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. Must call patients at least three times a day to visit their rooms if necessary.
