Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Job Title: Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Position Type: Full-Time, 11-month position Summary of position: The Baker Center for Children and Families (also known as Judge Baker Children's Center), promotes the best possible mental health of children and families through the integration of research, intervention, training, and policy. The School Psychiatric Prescriber provides comprehensive psychiatric and psychopharmacological services to caseload of Pre-Kindergarten through 12th Grade Manville School students. The School Psychiatric Prescriber works as an integral member of an interdisciplinary team and collaborates with students, families, educators, clinicians, school leadership, and community-based providers to support students with complex behavioral health needs. The School Psychiatric Prescriber demonstrated sound clinical judgment, strong knowledge of child and adolescent behavioral health, and the ability to provide trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate, culturally responsive, and evidence-based psychiatric care within a school-based setting. Provides direct psychiatric and psychopharmacological services, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, medication prescribing and management, and ongoing monitoring. Develops and monitors individualized treatment plans in collaboration with students, families, and the interdisciplinary team. Monitors medication effectiveness, side effects, and clinical response, making treatment adjustments within scope of licensure and applicable regulations. Collaborates with therapists, educators, social workers, school leadership, families, and other professionals to support coordinated student care. Provides psychiatric consultation regarding diagnosis, medication management, treatment recommendations, intake, discharge, transitions, and level-of-care decisions. Establishes collaborative relationships with students and caregivers and actively involves them in treatment planning and clinical decision-making. Provides education to students and caregivers regarding psychiatric diagnoses, treatment options, medications, expected outcomes, and ongoing behavioral health needs. Maintains timely, accurate clinical documentation and compliance with applicable laws, licensing and prescribing requirements, confidentiality standards, and organizational policies. Qualifications Education: Master’s degree in Nursing from an accredited institution, with graduate-level specialization as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). Graduate-level education and clinical preparation must meet all applicable requirements of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing for advanced practice nursing. Current, unrestricted Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) license and current, unrestricted authorization to practice as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) / Nurse Practitioner in psychiatric-mental health nursing, as required by Massachusetts law. Current national board certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) through a nationally recognized certifying body, such as the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration and applicable Massachusetts prescribing authority, when required for the position and scope of practice. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, when required by organizational policy, clinical setting, or applicable regulatory requirements. Experience: Minimum of 2–3 years of clinical experience providing psychiatric or behavioral health services as a PMHNP or in a closely related advanced practice role. Demonstrated experience providing psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and medication management. Experience working with children and/or adolescents with complex behavioral health needs. Experience assessing and responding to psychiatric or behavioral health crises. Experience collaborating within an interdisciplinary clinical or educational team. Experience communicating and collaborating with families/caregivers and external behavioral health or medical providers. Training: Training in verbal de-escalation, crisis intervention, and behavioral support strategies appropriate for working with children and adolescents experiencing behavioral or psychiatric distress. Completion of all required organizational training, including mandated reporter responsibilities, confidentiality/HIPAA, emergency response, workplace safety, and other compliance training applicable to the position. Completion of required ongoing continuing education and professional development necessary to maintain clinical competency and remain current with evidence-based psychiatric assessment, treatment, and psychopharmacological practices. Participation in additional role-specific training, competency-based education, and professional development as required by the organization, clinical program, or applicable regulatory standards.
