The Registered Professional Staff Nurse is responsible for providing individualized quality patient care. The nurse assesses patient needs through data collection and designs, implements, and continuously evaluates the plan of care. Collaboration with all members of the treatment team is essential. Other related duties may be assigned as requested. Nurses may be assigned to any inpatient unit to meet patient care needs. Upon admission, complete Nursing Admission Assessment to identify strengths, weaknesses, and problems. Develop an Individualized Treatment Plan considering the patient’s age, disability, culture, and religion. Administer medication and treatment accurately and assess the effect of medication on the patient. Attend multidisciplinary treatment planning conferences for assigned patients. Work collaboratively with treatment team members to achieve identified goals. Ensure patient care is provided in accordance with the Master Treatment Plan. Implement hospital-wide policies, procedures, and regulations within the professional scope of practice. Collaborate effectively with the treatment team and support patient plans for continuing care. Assess learning needs and barriers for patients and families. Provide age-appropriate learning opportunities and educational materials tailored to the patient or family. Participate in quality improvement activities based on unit concerns and issues. Maintain a safe and orderly work environment. Report environmental and safety hazards immediately. Handle and dispose of infectious and hazardous materials per policy and procedures. Review all assigned patient charts for new orders at the beginning of each shift. Accurately transcribe and co-sign medication orders. Document adverse reactions and unusual incidents immediately using appropriate reports. Use approved abbreviations for charting at all times. Document patient information accurately within procedural time limits. Participate in the orientation of new personnel and students assigned to the unit. Identify one patient problem, strength, and intervention within 24 hours of admission. Attend Treatment Planning Conferences and make necessary revisions to treatment plans. Review the Master Treatment Plan weekly and update as necessary. Plan and conduct nursing psycho-educational groups per unit schedule. Meet all requirements for annual IV re-certification if applicable. Model the organization’s standards of behavior.
