• Shift / Schedule: Night Shift, 3x12 Hours (18:45–07:15)

Job Summary

This is a travel nursing contract position on a fast-paced Medical-Surgical/Telemetry unit caring for an orthopedic, neuro spine, med-surg, and post-surgical patient population. The unit operates with an average daily census of 37, with 39 rooms and 39 beds. Ortho and spine patients require nurses who can stay on top of pain management. Covid patients are no longer cohorted to a specific Covid unit and are cared for on all units wherever they are when confirmed, unless they end up in the ICU.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to orthopedic, neuro spine, med-surg, and post-surgical patients on a fast-paced unit
• Manage pain effectively for ortho and spine patients requiring attentive and proactive pain management
• Perform IV starts and telemetry monitoring as part of routine patient care
• Float to any other med-surg unit within the facility to meet staffing needs based on census, as required
• Adhere to every-other-weekend requirement; if an RN calls out on a weekend, they will be required to make that time up on a weekend
• Care for Covid patients on the unit (no longer cohorted), unless the patient is transferred to the ICU
• Maintain patient ratios of 5–6:1, with the ability to flex up to 7:1 in extreme cases

Required Skills

• Minimum 2 years of RN experience — ORTHO WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
• IV Start proficiency
• Telemetry (Tele) experience
• Epic EMR experience (required for first-time travelers)
• Ability to float to other med-surg units within the facility as needed
• Ability to manage fast-paced environment with high patient acuity

Preferred Skills

• ACLS certification
• Charge Nurse experience
• Level I Trauma experience

Education Requirements

• Active RN License required
• BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification required
• NIH Stroke Scale certification required
• Must pass EKG Testing prior to start for this specialty

Required Experience

• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Ortho (orthopedic) work experience required
• Unit will accept first-time travelers WITH Epic experience

• Float requirement: Travelers may be required to float to any other med-surg unit within the facility to meet staffing needs based on census
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend required; call-outs on weekends must be made up on a weekend
• Block scheduling option available (F/S/S or S/S/M schedule)
• 36 or 48 hours per week can be offered
• Holiday RTO cannot be approved
• 7 days maximum RTO for AYA Auto Offer
• Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions only)

Important Notes

• RTO (Return to Origin) after booking is not allowed and is not allowed to be worked out onsite. Any call-offs or additional RTO on unit could possibly result in contract cancellation and DNR (Do Not Rehire).
• Must pass EKG Testing prior to start for this specialty.
• Holiday RTO cannot be approved under any circumstances.
• This position is listed through the Aya Healthcare MSP; Auto Offer eligible.
