Police Department (Non-Sworn) Training Position

The Pacific Grove Police Department is a service-oriented agency that provides full-service policing, 24/7, to the community of 15,522 residents. Unquestionably, the officers and support staff have mastered what so many agencies strive to achieve – the ability to provide exceptional public safety service, at the same time, serve as ambassadors for this idyllic community. Pride, dedication, and community spirit are very strong and both the business and residential communities have great support for the Department. The agency's authorized strength is 23 sworn officers; and supporting the Department are 11 professional staff members. In recent years, the Pacific Grove Police Department has made substantial improvements to its operations and community connections.

Under direct supervision, attends an approved California Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) basic police academy to be trained in the technical knowledge, skills, and physical capabilities required to perform police service; performs related duties as required.

PLEASE NOTE: Applications missing any one of the three components above will not be accepted for consideration. In order to be considered, PELLTB T-scores must be 50 or higher, and WSTB scores of 384 or higher.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: This is a non-sworn, training level classification in the Police Department. Incumbents will attend a basic police academy for training and California Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST). During the training, incumbents do not have police powers and are subject to the rules and regulations of the City of Pacific Grove Police Department and the academy attended. Trainees may be assigned non-safety duties in the Police Department such as assisting in Records; crime prevention; collecting information and data; transporting people and materials, etc. Promotion to a sworn Police Officer position is contingent upon successful completion of the basic academy and the final review of the Police Chief. Upon promotion to Police Officer, incumbents will begin a new one-year probationary period.

Education, Training and Experience:

• Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment.
• Must be a citizen of the United States at the time of appointment.
• Must possess a valid California Driver's License at the time of appointment.
• Must be possess a High School diploma, a G.E.D. certificate, and/or have attained a two-year, four-year, or advanced degree from an accredited school, college, or university.
• Must be fingerprinted through local, state, and national systems for the disclosure of criminal records.
• Must be of good moral character as determined by a thorough backgrounds investigation, including a polygraph examination.
• Must be found free of any physical, emotional, or mental conditions that might adversely affect the exercise of peace officer powers.
• Must be willing to work evening, night, weekend, and holiday shifts.
• Must provide proof POST Entry-level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB) Written Exam and the Physical Agility WSTB Exams were successfully passed.

Must maintain a valid California Driver's License.
