Job Description
This non-exempt position is responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of Town vehicles, equipment, and related systems to ensure safe and reliable fleet operations. Performs preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair work on a variety of light-duty vehicles, medium- and heavy-duty trucks, heavy equipment, hydraulic systems, small engines, trailers, and specialized equipment. Utilizes diagnostic equipment, fleet management software, and technical resources to complete accurate and timely repairs and maintenance documentation. Performs welding and fabrication work in support of vehicle, equipment, and infrastructure maintenance. Coordinates and communicates with Town staff, vendors, and other departments to support operational fleet needs. Positions at higher levels may perform more advanced diagnostics, repairs, technical guidance, and specialized assignments with greater independence and complexity. - Performs preventative maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and mechanical repair services on Town-owned vehicles and equipment including light-duty vehicles, medium- and heavy-duty trucks, heavy equipment, hydraulic systems, trailers, small engines, and related attachments and tools.
- Diagnoses and troubleshoots mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, fuel, and related system issues using diagnostic equipment, technical manuals, schematics, and computer-based diagnostic systems.
- Repairs, replaces, and installs mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and specialized components, accessories, and equipment on Town fleet vehicles and equipment.
- Performs welding and fabrication work utilizing Mig and Arc welding techniques to repair and maintain vehicles, equipment, attachments, and Town infrastructure.
- Follows preventative maintenance schedules and prioritizes repair activities to ensure fleet reliability, operational readiness, and compliance with applicable safety and regulatory requirements.
- Maintains accurate and timely work orders, maintenance records, inspection reports, labor documentation, and parts usage records utilizing fleet management software and related systems.
- Inspects, maintains, diagnoses, and repairs above-ground and underground petroleum storage tanks and fuel systems as assigned.
- Maintains inventory levels of parts, fluids, oils, chemicals, and related supplies; researches and requisitions materials and parts from approved vendors.
- Collaborates with supervisors, technicians, operators, and vendors to resolve maintenance issues, coordinate repairs, and obtain necessary parts and services.
- Maintains a clean, organized, and safe shop environment, storage yard, and work areas in accordance with safety standards and operational procedures.
