Job Description

This role is ideal for an experienced CNC Machinist who enjoys hands-on work with machine setup, programming, and troubleshooting in a high-mix manufacturing environment. You will program and edit G-Code and M-Code directly at the machine controller, set up and operate CNC mills, lathes, and Y-axis machines, and play a key role in maintaining quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement throughout the machining process.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC mills, lathes, and Y-axis machines to meet production requirements and support a high-mix manufacturing environment.

• Program, edit, and troubleshoot G-Code and M-Code at the machine controller to ensure accurate and efficient machining operations.

• Perform machine setups, prove out new CNC programs, and optimize cycle times to improve productivity and part quality.

• Monitor machine performance and make adjustments to feeds, speeds, and tooling as necessary to maintain optimal cutting conditions.

• Perform daily machine maintenance and minor repairs to keep equipment in good working order and minimize downtime.

• Inspect finished components using precision measuring instruments to verify compliance with blueprints, drawings, and specifications.

• Troubleshoot machining and quality issues, identify root causes, and communicate findings and recommendations to leadership as needed.

• Maintain tooling inventory, organize work areas, and follow company standards for tool management and workplace organization.

• Support continuous improvement initiatives by documenting process changes and contributing ideas to enhance efficiency and quality.

• Train and mentor less experienced machine operators on setup, programming, and machining best practices to build team capability.

• Assist with secondary operations including deburring, inspection, and cleaning of parts to ensure finished components meet requirements.

• Learn and contribute to manufacturing, assembly, finishing, and packaging processes related to the company’s products.

• Program at the machine controller and operate assigned machines, including performing routine maintenance, repairs, and upkeep.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, following established safety procedures and housekeeping standards.

Essential Skills

• Minimum 3 years of CNC machining experience, including machine setup and programming responsibilities.

• Demonstrated experience programming and editing G-Code and M-Code for CNC equipment.

• Ability to program directly at the machine controller and make independent adjustments to programs and offsets.

• Hands-on experience with CNC mills, lathes, and/or Y-axis machining centers in a production setting.

• Proficiency using Mastercam or similar CAM software to support machining operations.

• Strong understanding of machining principles, tooling selection, feeds, speeds, and cutting strategies.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and detailed work instructions.

• Proficiency with precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, indicators, and gauges.

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities related to machining, quality, and equipment performance.

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high standards of quality and productivity.

• Consistent attendance, professionalism, and a proactive work ethic focused on meeting production and quality goals.

• Minimum 2 years of machine operator experience including setup and entry-level programming.

• Troubleshooting or mechanical maintenance experience considered an important plus for this role.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Advanced G-Code and M-Code programming experience is highly preferred.

• Experience proving out new CNC programs and optimizing machining processes for efficiency and quality.

• Multi-axis machining experience is a strong plus.

• Mechanical maintenance and troubleshooting experience on CNC equipment is preferred.

• working in a production machining environment with multiple part numbers and setups.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with team members.

• Ability to train, mentor, and support less experienced machine operators in setup and machining practices.

Work Environment

The work environment is a hands-on manufacturing setting focused on machining, assembly, finishing, and packaging of precision products. You will work with Y-axis machines, lathes, mills, and other CNC equipment, programming at the machine controller and operating the machines throughout the production process. Daily activities include equipment setup, routine maintenance, minor repairs, and careful housekeeping to maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Antioch, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $36.00 - $45.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
