GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
The intent of this description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees on this job. Employees may be required or assigned other related activities, projects, or tasks other than those specifically presented in this description. Under the routine supervision of the Water Production Maintenance Crew Leader, performs skilled mechanical work repairing and maintaining specialized plant equipment and facilities at the water treatment facilities and in the Well field. Requires substantial judgment and analytic ability such as solving problems or performing routine repairs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Repairs pump, blowers, and fans using sophisticated tools and instruments to determine proper clearances.
- Performs precision alignment of rotating equipment drive trains.
- Must be reasonably available for overtime and call-ins outside regularly scheduled work hours.
- Documents equipment repair work history through maintenance management system.
- Fabricates steel and performs welding, cutting and rigging for dismantling and reassembly of equipment.
- Replaces and repairs piping relating to water, chemical, and slurry lines.
- Repairs and maintains aerators, flumes, basins and related water treatment plant equipment.
- Repairs and maintains lime handling equipment and piping.
- Performs repairs and maintenance to chlorination equipment: storage tanks, lined piping and mechanical sealed chemical pumps.
- Maintains and repairs trucks, forklifts and other mobile equipment. Ensures proper fluid levels are maintained in vehicles.
- Operates lathe and mill to fabricate repair parts and make accurate measurements. Repairs and repacks various types of service valves.
- Rebuilds and repairs filtration equipment, including traveling drive train speed reducers, torque converters.
- Researches drawings, prints, part numbers and equipment records relating to equipment repair.
- Repairs brick and masonry.
- Experience & ability to operate various types of equipment such as; mobile crane, boom truck, backhoe, manlift, scissor lift, skid steer, etc.
- Possess a general working knowledge of industrial electrical systems and be able to utilize electrical test equipment such as a digital volt/ohm meter
- Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school or GED, plus specialized schooling and/or on the job education in a specific skill area; e.g. data processing, clerical/administrative, equipment operation, etc., plus 3 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Ability to read and understand documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to prepare and interpret bar graphs.
CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of known variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram formats.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Driver's License, Commercial Driver's License with HazMat and Tanker endorsements. Respirator release required. First Aid and CPR
PREFERRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Class IVA Water Treatment Plant Operator Certification. 608 Refrigerant License

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Knowledge and Abilities
High school diploma required. Mechanical aptitude needed with basic knowledge of plant operations and ability to operate precision tools and instruments in the repair of physical plant equipment. Ability to read and interpret blue prints and mechanical drawings. Respirator release required.
Experience
Three years mechanic repair, experience including welding, cutting and operation of sophisticated tools and instruments for equipment repair.
