Job Type Full‑time Job Description This is a hybrid Glass Blowing/Shop Tech position. We are looking for a senior/master Glassblower with experience running a glass studio and 10 years of production glass blowing experience. Senior/Master Glass Blower and Shop Tech Key Responsibilities – Glass Blowing (70%) Expert glassblowing: Demonstrating exceptional skill in all aspects of glassblowing, mold blowing, shaping, forming and finishing work. Design support: Support the creation of innovative designs, often pushing the boundaries of glassblowing techniques. Mentorship: Guide apprentices and journeymen, sharing knowledge and expertise. Project management: Oversee complex glassblowing projects, ensuring deadlines and quality standards are met. Quality control: Ensure all glass pieces produced meet the highest standards of craftsmanship. Technical proficiency: Deep understanding of glass properties, techniques, and equipment—equivalent to 10 years of production experience. Creativity: Design and create unique and innovative glass pieces. Coldworking: Basic coldworking skills. Problem‑solving: Overcome challenges and find solutions to technical issues. Leadership: Guide and mentor others in glassblowing. Independent or collaborative: May work independently or as part of a team, depending on project needs. Physical demands: Glassblowing can be physically demanding, requiring strength, dexterity, and the ability to stand for long periods in hot weather. Studio location is in Miami, Florida, where summer temperatures regularly reach the 90s. Key Responsibilities – Shop Tech (30%) Furnace operation: Operate, repair, and maintain Falorni furnaces; basic knowledge of combustion systems and electrical schematics; understand furnace tuning and preventative maintenance. Kiln maintenance: Replace components and service electrical annealers and kilns; understand kiln operation and repair, including replacing elements and breakers; basic electrical system knowledge. Watlow controllers: Operate and program Watlow controllers; install controllers and understand control boxes. Gas devices: Repair and maintain all gas devices such as gloryholes and pipe warmers. Basic shop maintenance: Maintain hot shop studio equipment and varied shop equipment. Repair of wood molds: Rebuild and maintain wood molds to sustain operation.
