Biomedical Engineering Tech - III

Position Summary: With very little supervision, UHS HTM BMET III performs evaluations, repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance on devices used in the care and treatment of patients at assigned UHS facilities. Can perform preventive maintenance (PM) or operational verification procedure (OVP) on 75% of the device types in inventory. Can repair 75% of the device types in inventory unassisted. Focuses performance to ensure the safest and best possible patient experience. Delivers exceptional service to all customers that meets or exceeds all regulatory requirements and compliance. Assists in developing and strengthening facility and vendor relationships. Meets all established key performance indicator (KPI) requirements.

Job Duties:

  • Documents and maintains records of all work activities in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Can perform preventive maintenance (PM) or operational verification procedure (OVP) on 75% of the device types in inventory.
  • Can repair 75% of the device types in inventory unassisted.
  • Participates in continuing education.
  • Participates in on-call schedule/rotation as directed.
  • Routinely performs the corrective and preventive maintenance of devices and all related follow-up communications.
  • Travels to other sites as directed/needed.
  • Understands and complies with some regulatory requirements.
  • Understands and properly operates test equipment required for the repair and maintenance of devices in the HTM Program.
  • May pull and terminate cabling including fiber optic cabling.
  • Follows established corporate and local policies and procedures pertinent to the position held.
  • Participates in and/or facilitates in-service education to device users.
  • Coordinates the ordering of replacement parts and/or service on devices.
  • Ensures replacement parts/services are delivered and ensures accuracy of invoicing.
  • Ensures all exchange parts ordered are returned for proper credit within the time frame specified.

Qualifications:

Education, Training, Experience and Licenses/Registrations Required:

  • Very experienced with healthcare technology management programs.
  • Thorough medical equipment knowledge (manufacturers, models, modalities, device types, capital planning).
  • Thorough understanding of regulatory requirements of medical devices (CMS, TJC, CLIA, AABB, NRC, State, Local).
  • Professional Certification preferred (CBET, CRES, CLES, CABT, CHTM, PMP, AWS-CSAA, CISSP, CAN, MLT, CRCST) and/or other professional certifications as deemed pertinent by the hiring director.
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft products), very experienced with computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) products.
  • Local travel will be required periodically.

Education: Bachelor's Degree - Preferred

Professional Certification: Preferred

Technical School/2 Years College / Associate's Degree, Military - Minimum Years of Related Experience - 3-5 years

Minimum Physical and Sensory Requirements: Direct supervision given. Specific/detailed instructions provided. Procedures well established. Limited decisions made. Supervisor readily available as needed. Independent judgment necessary. Supervisor is usually available. Decisions made on a regular basis. Supervisor availability is limited. Little to no guidance provided by Supervisor on daily basis.
