Job Description Summary The Salary On-Call RN for the Operating Room is a critical member of the perioperative team, responsible for providing high-quality, patient-centered care during surgical procedures. This salaried position includes scheduled on-call shifts to support urgent and emergent surgical cases outside of regular operating hours. The RN collaborates with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe and efficient surgical care. Minimum Qualifications Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred. Current RN license in South Carolina. Current AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification. Experience in scrubbing and circulating in the operating room preferred. One year of work experience as a registered nurse. Licensed by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Enrollment in an accredited BSN program within two years and successful completion within four years if hired on or after July 1, 2013. Work Environment Regularly exposed to the risk of blood‑borne diseases, contacts with patients under a wide variety of circumstances, and must handle emergency or crisis situations. Occasional irregular hours and pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries. Supervisory Responsibilities No direct supervisory responsibilities, but provides direction to nursing assistants. Essential Functions Prepares the patient for scheduled procedures and assists in patient assessment. Monitors medical condition of patients and reports changes to the appropriate personnel. Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes to assure optimal patient care. Assists physicians with examinations, procedures related to direct patient care. Has knowledge of all equipment, procedures and can instruct and precept personnel. Writes initial nursing histories, assesses patient conditions and develops individual care plans for patients in the OR. Demonstrates sensitivity to patients’ comfort and privacy and maintains a safe, therapeutic and comfortable environment for patients and families in accordance with hospital standards. Orients, trains and instructs assigned personnel. Cooperates with other personnel to achieve departmental objectives and maintain good employee objectives. Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording of patient medical records maintaining all required reports, records and statistics. Performs other miscellaneous and related duties as assigned. Has knowledge of ADRN standards and practices. Physical Requirements Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time. Proficiency in manual dexterity and fine‑motor skills for tasks such as taking patient vitals, administering injections, or conducting physical exams. Capacity to lift and move patients or medical equipment as needed. Visual acuity and color perception to accurately read medical charts, documents, and monitors. Auditory ability to effectively communicate with patients and colleagues, and to perceive important sounds such as alarms. Stamina and resilience to handle the physical and emotional demands of providing patient care, including long shifts and potentially stressful situations. Mobility to navigate clinical environments and move between patient rooms, offices, and other areas of the facility. Compliance with infection control protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment. Mental Requirements Must possess the ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex scientific, clinical or business documents, respond to sensitive inquiries or complaints, write persuasive correspondence, speeches, and articles, effectively present information to top management, and handle complex mathematical calculations to interpret data. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to deal with concrete and abstract concepts and interpret verbal, non‑verbal and written instructions.
