Firmware Developer / Reverse Engineer

Columbia, MD | Full Time | TS/SCI with Full-Scope Polygraph Required

Position: Firmware Developer / Reverse Engineer (Computer Scientist, Level 2 or Level 3)

Location: Columbia, MD (on-site)

Compensation: $125,100 – $225,200 (annualized USD)

Experience Requirement:

• Level 2: 5+ years with a Bachelor's degree, OR 3+ years with a Master's degree, OR

• Level 3: 10+ years with a Bachelor's degree, OR 8+ years with a Master's degree

• At least 3 years of cybersecurity-related software development experience

• Degree must be in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related discipline

Description

We are looking for an experienced Firmware Developer to join a small, mission-impactful team building new and existing capabilities on firmware and embedded platforms. You'll work close to the metal—combining strong C programming skills with reverse engineering across diverse architectures to design, extend, and analyze firmware for high-impact use cases.

This is hands-on, deeply technical work in a small team where your contributions directly shape the capability roadmap.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop new firmware-level capabilities and extend existing ones.

• Perform analysis and reverse engineering of firmware and embedded components across multiple architectures.

• Write production-grade C code targeting constrained and embedded environments.

• Investigate device and firmware behavior, document findings, and turn them into actionable engineering work.

• Collaborate with subject matter experts, fellow developers, and end users on requirements, prototypes, and refinements.

• Contribute to code reviews, technical documentation, and design discussions.

Skills Requirements

• Strong proficiency in C programming.

• Reverse engineering experience across diverse architectures (e.g., ARM, MIPS, x86).

• Comfort working in Linux-based development environments.

• Familiarity with low-level debugging, embedded toolchains, and platform internals.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice to Haves

• Experience with vulnerability research.

• Experience analyzing or developing firmware in a production context.

• Familiarity with firmware extraction and analysis (e.g., binwalk, Ghidra, IDA Pro, radare2).

• Experience with exploit development.

• Experience with C++, Rust, or Go for embedded or systems work.

• Atlassian Tools (Jira, Confluence) and Git/GitLab workflows.

Compensation Employment Policy

Salary is determined by multiple factors, including location, education, experience, skills, and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $125,100 – $225,200 (annualized USD).
