This Medical Assistant position is a primarily back-office role in a high-volume, fast-paced community health clinic serving underserved populations. You provide direct clinical support to providers by rooming patients, obtaining vital signs, preparing charts, and maintaining accurate documentation in accordance with funder and Quality Management requirements. The role requires compassion, cultural sensitivity, and reliability, as you help deliver equitable, patient-centered care in a mission-driven, collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

• Take vital signs, including height, weight, and body mass index (BMI), and document findings accurately in the medical record.
• Room patients efficiently, prepare them for examination, and ensure charts and medical records are complete and ready for the provider.
• Interview patients to obtain basic medical information and history, and enter information accurately into the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Prepare treatment rooms before each patient visit, ensuring rooms are neat, clean, and fully stocked with required supplies and equipment.
• Maintain sanitary and sterile supplies and equipment, following infection control and safety protocols at all times.
• Maintain monthly equipment logs, including devices such as Hemocue and other clinical equipment, ensuring all logs are accurate and up to date.
• Assist physicians and nurses during examinations and treatments by handling instruments, preparing and disinfecting treatment sites, and applying or removing dressings and bandages.
• Support referral submission and tracking to ensure patients receive timely follow-up care and specialty services.
• Assist with patient discharge by reinforcing follow-up instructions, answering basic questions within scope, and ensuring patients understand next steps.
• Maintain accurate documentation in compliance with funder requirements and Quality Management standards.
• Ensure HIPAA compliance at all times by protecting patient privacy and maintaining confidentiality of health information.
• Greet and register patients when needed, assist with completion of necessary forms, and provide courteous, professional front-line support as required.
• Answer telephones and schedule appointments as needed, helping to ensure efficient clinic flow and positive patient experiences.
• Retrieve and maintain medical files and records, ensuring they are organized, complete, and accessible to authorized staff.
• Demonstrate reliable attendance and punctuality, consistently meeting the expectations of a full-time, Monday–Friday onsite schedule.
• Float to other clinic areas or locations if needed once converted, supporting team coverage and continuity of care.

Essential Skills

• Medical Assistant diploma or certificate from a recognized institution.
• Current CPR/BLS certification.
• Hands-on experience using electronic medical records (EMR).
• Minimum 2 years of Medical Assistant experience preferred in a clinical setting.
• Demonstrated experience in back-office medical assisting, including vitals, rooming, and clinical support tasks.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation to meet funder and Quality Management requirements.
• Ability to maintain strict HIPAA compliance and protect patient confidentiality at all times.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume clinic environment.
• Commitment to a full-time, Monday–Friday onsite schedule.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality, with the ability to consistently meet schedule requirements.
• Compassion, cultural sensitivity, and a strong commitment to serving underserved populations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential preferred.
• Experience in primary care, community health, nonprofit, or Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) settings strongly preferred.
• Prior experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, such as social workers, housing specialists, and clinical staff.
• Strong customer service skills in a healthcare setting, including clear communication and patient-centered service.
• Comfort working in a mission-driven organization focused on equitable, patient-centered care.
• Ability to adapt to changing clinic needs, including potential to float to other areas once converted.

Work Environment

This role is based onsite in a tight-knit, long-tenured clinic team that operates in a high-volume, fast-paced community health environment. You work closely with physicians, nurses, social workers, housing specialists, and other clinical staff in a highly collaborative, mission-driven, and community-focused culture. The clinic emphasizes equitable, patient-centered care and values-based leadership. The environment requires consistent full-time, Monday–Friday attendance and the ability to manage a steady flow of patients while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and documentation. Clinical work involves regular use of electronic medical records, vital sign equipment, devices such as Hemocue, and standard medical supplies and instruments in exam and treatment rooms that must remain clean, sanitary, and well stocked.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of West Hollywood, CA.

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $24.00/hr.
