The Director, Legal Counsel – North America (Marketing) serves as a legal partner to the Marketing Function, providing practical, business-oriented advice across a portfolio of brands and marketing initiatives. This role supports a broad range of work, including brand marketing, consumer promotions, influencer marketing, sponsorships and partnerships, as well as digital marketing. While focused on North America, the role operates within The Coca-Cola Company's global marketing ecosystem and collaborates closely with global legal and business colleagues to support enterprise marketing priorities, share best practices, and contribute to the development of scalable legal approaches to emerging opportunities and risks. The successful candidate will help bring innovative marketing ideas to life by balancing business objectives with legal and regulatory requirements. Scope & Impact Provides legal support for defined marketing portfolios, including brand marketing, promotional, and sponsorship activities Executes legal frameworks and guidance set by NAOU Legal leadership Delivers scalable, practical legal solutions in partnership with business teams Participates in the broader global Marketing Legal network, helping drive consistency, share best practices and identify emerging legal risks and opportunities across markets Contributes North America perspectives and insights to enterprise-wide discussions regarding marketing strategy, legal frameworks and evolving consumer engagement models Key Responsibilities Business Partnership & Legal Counsel Serve as a trusted day-to-day legal advisor to designated brand and marketing teams across North America, providing practical, creative, and solution-oriented counsel that advances business objectives while appropriately managing legal and regulatory risk. Build strong working relationships with designated brand and marketing teams across North America, serving as a trusted day-to-day legal advisor. Collaborate with business and legal stakeholders to develop compliant, commercially minded solutions that support the execution of marketing strategies and business priorities. Contribute to the development of guidance materials, playbooks, and training resources that promote informed decision-making and scalable compliance practices. Brand, Promotion, Sponsorship and Talent Partner with marketing teams to provide practical, solution-oriented legal guidance that supports business objectives while appropriately managing legal, regulatory, and reputational risk. Advise on marketing initiatives, including advertising campaigns, experiential activations, sponsorships, brand partnerships, influencer programs, and sports and entertainment marketing. Counsel on contests, sweepstakes, promotions, and related advertising, marketing, and consumer protection requirements. Draft, review, negotiate, and interpret a variety of marketing-related agreements, including sponsorship, customer, talent, influencer, licensing, agency, and promotional contracts. Support the execution of marketing activations and partnerships by advising on contractual rights and obligations, intellectual property use, marketing claims, and other legal considerations. Advise on digital marketing initiatives, including social media, influencer marketing, content creation, and digital advertising, while partnering with subject matter experts to address consumer data, privacy, and marketing technology considerations Food Law & Regulatory Assess advertising and marketing claims, advise on substantiation, FTC/NAD considerations, and advertising law compliance, and develop practical solutions that support business objectives while managing risk. Advise marketing and business teams on FDA and other regulatory requirements, providing actionable guidance that supports compliant marketing, labeling, packaging, and consumer-facing initiatives. Monitor legal, regulatory, and enforcement developments that may impact marketing activities, business operations, reputation, or the company's ability to do business, and advise stakeholders on resulting risks and compliance obligations. Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with legal subject matter experts to address complex, cross-functional issues Coordinate legal input to ensure consistent, aligned advice Build strong working relationships across the Legal function Qualifications & Experience Qualified to practice law in Georgia or another U.S. jurisdiction and in good standing. 5+ years of experience advising on marketing, advertising, sponsorship, promotional, digital marketing, or related commercial matters. Strong knowledge of advertising law, claim substantiation, and FTC/NAD requirements. Experience advising on promotions, sweepstakes, contests, and related regulatory requirements. Working knowledge of FDA labeling regulations and current food law issues Experience providing practical legal counsel to marketing and business teams. Experience drafting and negotiating sponsorship, influencer, talent, agency, licensing, promotional, and other marketing-related agreements. Strong judgment, communication, and stakeholder management skills. Ability to translate complex legal issues into practical business guidance. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
