The Job

This is an entry-level field position with Haul American, LLC.

You start on a crew running junk - furniture, appliances, construction debris, estate cleanouts, and whatever else a customer needs gone. You lift, load, sweep, treat the property like it is yours, and you take care of our customers.

This is not a forever-helper job - we need the ideal candidate to be self-motivated and aspiring. The track is simple: prove you can work, show up, and be trusted. Then you graduate to running your own truck. Probationary pay starting at $17 an hour. When you can run a truck independently — safely, cleanly, on time, and without being — you step to $19 an hour. Additional pay raise for management of other crew members. Tips and bonuses included.

What You Will Do

• Load, haul, and dispose of junk from homes, businesses, and job sites across El Paso County.

• Work as a two-person crew during training; later operate a company truck on assigned routes and jobs - initially solo, then as crew chief.

• Protect customer property. Use drop cloths, dollies, and common sense. Leave the site cleaner than you found it.

• Talk to customers like an adult. Confirm the scope, answer basic questions, and radio the office when something is off.

• Drive company vehicles when authorized. Inspect the truck at the start and end of every day. Fuel it. Keep it clean.

• Sort loads when required. Recycle, donate, or dump the right material at the right facility. Keep tickets.

• Follow dump, landfill, and recycling rules. No dumping on the cheap. No cutting corners that cost the company.

• Wear the uniform. Represent the company on every driveway.

• Show up on time, ready to work, in all weather. Colorado Springs neighbors do not cancel junk pickup because it is windy or cold!

Who This Is For

High integrity is not a slogan here. You will be in people's garages, basements, and bedrooms. You will handle cash, cards, dump tickets, and company equipment. Integrity means charging customers for hard work and then maintaining careful control of the cash box.

This is hard, rewarding physical work.

Requirements

• 18 years of age or older and legally authorized to work in the U.S.

• Valid Colorado driver's license and a clean driving record to be insured on company trucks.

• Reliable transportation to the yard every morning.

• Ability to pass a background check. Prior issues are reviewed case by case. Theft, violence, and recent serious driving offenses will not clear.

• Willingness to submit to drug screening.

• Can lift 50–75 pounds repeatedly, carry awkward loads up and down stairs, and work on your feet 8–10+ hours.

• Can work outdoors year-round — heat, cold, wind, snow, dust.

• Can take direction, stay off your phone on the job, and own mistakes the first time they are pointed out.

• High school diploma or GED preferred, not required if you can do the work.

Physical Demands — Read This

• Constant standing, walking, bending, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.

• Repeated heavy lifting of furniture, appliances, mattresses, debris, and construction material.

• Stairs, tight hallways, unfinished basements, muddy yards, and uneven ground.

• Occasional work around demolition sites, dumpsters, and heavy equipment.

If you have a back, knee, or shoulder issue that cannot handle the workload, This job will find it.

Pay and Path

$17.00 per hour during the probationary / training period. You work as crew under a lead. You learn the trucks, the logistics, the quoting rhythm, and how we treat customers.

$19.00 per hour once you graduate to running your own truck. Graduation is not a calendar date. It is earned when you can complete jobs independently: load correctly, drive safely, hit the right dump, collect payment, keep the truck tight, and not create problems that need to be cleaned up.

Hours vary with the work. Expect early mornings, OCCASIONAL Saturdays (will be eligible for profit sharing for weekend work), and FULL days when the board is full. Overtime may be available when the volume supports. This is an hourly, at-will position.

Nice to Have

• Prior junk removal, moving, demolition, construction, or warehouse experience.

• Comfortable backing trailers and driving a 1-ton or medium-duty truck.

• Basic knowledge of mechanical skill (oil changes, tire rotatio, etc.).
