Manufacturing Engineer, Powertrain and Electronics

OverviewJoby Aviation is seeking a passionate Electronics Manufacturing Engineer to join our Electronics Manufacturing Engineering team in San Carlos, CA. This role focuses on process engineering, equipment development, and scaling products from prototype to production. The ideal candidate is highly organized and self-driven, with a strong understanding of mechanical design, design for manufacturability, process development, and quality control. This is an exciting and rewarding opportunity — as a Manufacturing Engineer at Joby, you will see your ideas go from concept to reality in a fast-paced, high-impact environment.ResponsibilitiesDevelop manufacturing processes, assembly fixturing, tooling, and equipment to support both prototype and production buildsDesign and optimize full production line layouts and workstations with a focus on safety, ergonomics, quality, and efficiencyAuthor clear, detailed manufacturing work instructions to ensure process consistency and repeatabilityLead process development using statistical methods including process capability studies, gauge repeatability and reproducibility (GR&R), and design of experiments (DoE)Ensure products and processes adhere to quality and regulatory compliance standardsPartner with Design Engineers throughout prototype builds and new product introduction (NPI)Drive continuous improvement of existing production lines, processes, fixturing, tooling, and automated equipment, by applying Lean Manufacturing principles to reduce waste and improve safety, ergonomics, and material flowRequiredB.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent 5+ years of relevant manufacturing or production engineering experienceProficiency in mechanical design, including fixture and assembly tooling designDemonstrated experience writing manufacturing work instructions and designing ergonomic manual workstationsAbility to interpret mechanical drawings and assemblies, including GD&THands-on experience across both prototype and production manufacturing environmentsProficiency in SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar CAD softwareStrong problem-solving skills and a proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teamsDesiredM.S. in manufacturing or mechanical engineeringExperience in aerospace avionics, electric vehicles, consumer electronics, or medical devicesExperience in manufacturing in a regulated environment such as 14 CFR Part 21, ISO9001, ISO 13485, TS16949, or equivalentFamiliarity with aerospace manufacturing, processing, and materialsExperience in one or more of the following fields: Electric motor assembly, complex mechanical assembly, electronics assembly, inverter assembly, cooling system assembly, or lithium-ion battery module/pack assemblyCompensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $98,400 - $135,300/yr.
