Mgr-Tech Project Mgmt

The Manager of Technical Project Management for the Global Infrastructure (GI) Cross Platform Delivery (CPD) team will lead strategic and technical initiatives requiring coordination across engineering teams and organizations. Reporting to the Director of Program Management, this individual will partner with GI leadership, engineers, architects, product teams, and business stakeholders to translate strategic and technical objectives into executable plans and measurable outcomes.

The successful candidate will combine strong technical project/program management skills with hands-on software engineering experience. The ideal candidate understands software architecture, development, deployment, and production operations and can engage engineering teams at a detailed technical level. Experience with American Express engineering platforms and processes, including Enterprise Cloud/Hydra and CI/CD tooling, is highly valued.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex technical programs across multiple engineering teams and platforms from planning and design through deployment and operational readiness.
• Partner with engineers, architects, product teams, and technology leaders to establish execution plans, milestones, dependencies, and delivery priorities.
• Apply hands-on engineering knowledge to understand technical designs, implementation approaches, deployment strategies, and delivery challenges.
• Coordinate activities across the software development lifecycle, including design, development, testing, release planning, deployment, and production readiness.
• Support software delivery using modern DevOps and CI/CD practices, including Enterprise Cloud/Hydra, GitHub, GitHub Actions, and automated deployment pipelines.
• Collaborate on solution and architectural design, identifying integrations, dependencies, technical constraints, resiliency requirements, and implementation tradeoffs.
• Manage program governance, including milestones, risks, dependencies, decisions, and executive reporting.
• Translate complex technical topics into clear plans and communications for engineering, business, and executive audiences.
• Identify opportunities to improve engineering delivery through automation, standardization, process simplification, and adoption of best practices.
• Leverage AI-enabled tools, automation, and delivery metrics to improve planning, reporting, transparency, and program outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent work experience.
• Hands-on software engineering experience developing, integrating, deploying, or supporting production systems.
• Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle, including source control, testing, build processes, CI/CD, deployment, and production operations.
• Experience with American Express engineering platforms and deployment practices, including Enterprise Cloud/Hydra and related CI/CD tooling, is strongly preferred.
• Experience with application or system architecture, including APIs, integrations, service dependencies, data flows, resiliency, and technical tradeoffs.
• Technical depth to effectively engage engineers and architects, understand implementation challenges, and translate technical discussions into actionable delivery plans.
• Proven experience leading complex technical programs, software delivery initiatives, or cross-functional technology projects.
• Strong project/program management skills, including risk, dependency, schedule, release, and stakeholder management.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to operate effectively in ambiguous, fast-paced environments and influence without direct authority.
• Experience using AI-enabled tools, automation, and delivery analytics to improve program execution and outcomes.
