The dental assistant will demonstrate ICARE Values when caring for our Veterans. The incumbent will handle confrontations and hostile reactions calmly - striving to diffuse the situation. Duties Patient Care:and removable) - endodontics (including endodontic surgery) - periodontics (including periodontal surgery) - and oral surgery (including implant placement) The incumbent will assist the dentist as assigned and provide additional support to other assistants and co-workers during the workday The dental assistant utilizes the techniques of four-handed dentistry in the dental operatory and assists in the operating room following operating room sterile procedures when assigned to assist on a rotation with our part time Oral Surgeon Dental Imaging:Processes dental radiographs independently with good diagnostic quality and with proper alignment to dental anatomy. Evaluates and retakes dental radiographs when not of diagnostic quality Shows skill in operating and adjusting Planmeca and Scan-X Systems.0Demonstrates competency and working knowledge of MIPACS system with guidance from more experienced users and direct supervision. Images are characterized by diagnostic quality and proper orientation Infection Control and Equipment Sterilization:Demonstrates proper infection control procedures and adherence to clinic standard operating procedures in the preparation and disinfection of dental operatories. Disinfects dental appliances for movement to and from the dental laboratory. Properly prepares instruments for transfer to SPS for sterilization. Follows all Standard Operating Procedures for Reusable Medical Equipment. Works closely with Sterile Processing Service to ensure availability of instruments for patient care. Clerical Functions: Contacts patients and facilitates patient scheduling by providing necessary information to Medical Support Assistants This is accomplished with guidance from more experienced dental assistants and administrative staff Participates in patient identification and time out procedures per the Joint Commission National Safety Goals The incumbent assists in monitoring the patient by noting vital signs As directed by the dentist - they will record the medical history - and chart during the exam and treatment planning appointments The incumbent must be knowledgeable and accurate in entering upcoming appointments in CERNER Information Management:Maintains patient confidentiality per HIPAA with written and verbal information.
