Mechanical Assembly Technician

Mechanical AssemblerThis role focuses on assembling refrigeration cases and related sub-assemblies such as tanks, canopies, base frames, hardware kits, and plenums. You work from detailed work orders and assembly instructions, using hand and power tools to build units to completion as part of a collaborative production team. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to interpret measurements and blueprints, and a commitment to safety, quality, and productivity in a light industrial environment.ResponsibilitiesComplete refrigeration cases and partial sub-assemblies, including tanks, canopies, base frames, hardware kits, plenums, and other assigned components.Read and comprehend "A" orders and work orders to understand build requirements, parts lists, and assembly steps.Identify all parts used on the assigned product line and determine their correct placement on the product.Identify and correctly use the appropriate hand and power tools required for the assigned product line.Perform assembly functions using hand tools and power tools to build units to specification.Use work order information to identify parts and part descriptions accurately.Apply information related to material gauging and dimensioning to ensure proper fit and function of assembled components.Read and use measuring instruments such as rulers, tape measures, metal squares, and other tools to verify dimensions.Fasten parts together using bolts, screws, speed clips, rivets, and other fasteners as required.Work at different workstations as production needs change, maintaining flexibility across the assembly line.Collaborate as a member of the assembly team to build units through to completion.Perform appropriate preventive maintenance on equipment and tooling to support safe and efficient operation.Follow all safety guidelines, quality standards, and production procedures in a light industrial setting.Support general labor and production tasks as needed to meet daily output and quality expectations.Essential SkillsDemonstrated mechanical aptitude and comfort working in a light industrial, production, or assembly environment.Ability to read and comprehend "A" orders, work orders, and basic blueprints or assembly diagrams.Proficiency using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.Ability to read and interpret measurements using rulers, tape measures, metal squares, and similar instruments.Experience with mechanical assembly, including fastening parts using bolts, screws, speed clips, rivets, and other fasteners.Capability to perform repetitive tasks while maintaining attention to detail and quality standards.Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and to bend, twist, and lift from awkward positions or in tight spaces.Physical ability to push and pull cases ranging from approximately 200 pounds to 800 pounds on a repetitive basis.Ability to stand for extended periods, use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls, and communicate clearly.Ability to frequently walk and reach with hands and arms, and occasionally sit, stoop, and kneel as required by the tasks.Reliability and willingness to work on a structured first-shift schedule in a production environment.Additional Skills & QualificationsPrior assembly line experience in mechanical or electrical production settings.Experience building mechanical or electrical components using hand and power tools.Experience in general labor within manufacturing or light industry environments.Comfort working across multiple workstations and adapting to changing production priorities.Strong teamwork skills and the ability to contribute positively to an assembly team.Commitment to high ethical standards, openness, and trust in daily work.Focus on delivering results and meeting production expectations while maintaining quality.Respectful approach to working with others and valuing diverse perspectives.Why Work Here?You join a values-driven organization that emphasizes a collaborative entrepreneurial spirit, winning through a focus on customers, and a deep respect for people. The environment is light industrial with organized workstations, assembly lines, and access to a variety of hand and power tools and measuring instruments. Work is primarily performed while standing, with frequent walking and reaching, and occasional sitting, stooping, and kneeling. The role involves handling and moving heavy cases and components, requiring regular lifting, pushing, and pulling. The standard schedule is first shift, running from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., offering a consistent daytime work pattern in a structured, safety-conscious manufacturing setting.Job Type & Location: This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Colonial Heights, VA.Pay and Benefits: The pay range for this position is $16.50 - $16.50/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
