Civil Engineer
LPD Engineering PLLC
Civil Engineer (5-9 Years of Experience)
At LPD Engineering, we're passionate about designing infrastructure that strengthens communities and creates lasting impact. As a Seattle-based, woman-owned civil engineering firm, we deliver innovative site development solutions from concept through construction for a diverse range of public and private projects.
Our expertise includes site development, stormwater management, grading, utilities, paving, access improvements, erosion control, and infrastructure design. We work across multiple delivery methods—including Design-Bid-Build, GCCM, Progressive Design-Build, and Design-Build—giving our team the opportunity to solve complex challenges and work on meaningful projects.
The Opportunity
LPD Engineering is seeking a motivated and experienced, mid-level Civil Engineer to join our growing Civil Site Development team and support a diverse portfolio of projects throughout Western Washington, including educational, civic, parks, residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments. The role provides increasing responsibility in technical execution, project coordination, project management, client interaction, and leadership, including managing small to mid-size projects and supporting senior project managers on larger projects through design and construction. The ideal candidate takes ownership of assigned work, proactively communicates project needs and challenges, understands project scope, budgets, and schedules, and contributes to technical excellence, team development, and successful project delivery. This position also supports LPD's growth by building client and industry relationships, participating in business development efforts, identifying opportunities for future work, and strengthening relationships with clients, partners, and project teams.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Design & Project Delivery
- Lead and support site planning, grading, drainage, utilities, stormwater management, erosion control, roadway and ADA improvements, and other site infrastructure design.
- Develop and review civil engineering plans and construction documents using AutoCAD and Civil 3D, including details, specifications, technical reports, calculations, and other project deliverables.
- Perform engineering analysis and calculations; coordinate permitting and regulatory requirements; and ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, regulations, and permit conditions.
- Support projects through planning, design, permitting, bidding, construction administration, and closeout, including site assessments and construction observations to verify conditions, document progress, and resolve field issues.
- Review engineering plans, calculations, technical reports, and other deliverables for accuracy, completeness, consistency, and compliance with LPD standards and applicable codes and regulations. Identify potential issues early and coordinate timely resolution to maintain high-quality project deliverables.
Project Management & Coordination
- Manage small to medium-size projects with senior manager oversight taking increasing responsibilities for project scope, schedule, budget, deliverables, and resource management.
- Coordinate with senior managers, internal teams, clients, architects, landscape architects, surveyors, geotechnical consultants, contractors, and public agencies to develop coordinated project solutions.
- Assist with project scheduling, task management, and coordination of project deliverables to support successful project execution.
- Participate in client meetings, agency coordination meetings, and internal project planning discussions.
- Provide construction-phase support by responding to Requests for Information (RFIs), reviewing submittals, assisting with site observations, and resolving construction-related issues.
Leadership & Staff Development
- Assist LPD's senior managers with resource management, planning, and coordinating project work across the engineering and CAD teams.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and design staff, supporting their professional development and technical growth.
- Review and perform regular QA/QC of work prepared by junior staff for technical accuracy, completeness, and adherence to company standards before submission to project managers.
- Encourage collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning within project teams.
- Support the implementation of company drafting standards, engineering best practices, and quality control procedures.
Client Relationships & Business Development
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and public agencies through effective communication, responsiveness, and delivery of high-quality work.
- Represent LPD professionally in client meetings, agency interactions, industry events, and other professional settings.
- Support business development efforts by participating in client outreach, networking, proposal development, and other activities that strengthen existing relationships and expand LPD's project opportunities.
- Recognize potential opportunities to support existing clients or pursue future work and communicate those opportunities to senior staff.
- Contribute to LPD's reputation and continued growth by providing exceptional client service and building long-term professional relationships.
Professional Development & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain current knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal design standards, permitting requirements, and engineering best practices.
- Identify opportunities to improve project delivery processes, design efficiency, and technical standards.
- Stay current with industry standards, technologies, and best practices and apply new tools and approaches to improve design efficiency and project outcomes.
- Continue developing project management, leadership, and client communication skills in preparation for increased project management responsibilities.
- Seek opportunities to expand technical expertise and take on progressively greater responsibility based on experience, performance, and project needs.
- Participate in professional organizations, industry events, training, and other activities that support technical and professional growth and contribute to LPD's relationships within the industry.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related engineering from an accredited university.
- Five (5) to nine (9) years of progressively responsible experience in civil site development engineering.
- Strong technical knowledge of grading, drainage, stormwater management, utilities, erosion and sediment control, and site development design.
- Experience preparing civil engineering plans, technical reports, engineering calculations, and permitting documents.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and experience utilizing industry-standard civil engineering design software.
- Working knowledge of local, state (Washington), and federal permitting requirements and engineering design standards.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments and project deadlines.
- Ability to effectively collaborate and communicate across internal and external project teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently while recognizing when collaboration or guidance is needed.
- Commitment to producing high-quality work and delivering exceptional client service.
- Demonstrated ability to take ownership of assignments, meet deadlines, communicate proactively, and follow through on commitments.
- Ability and willingness to develop and maintain positive client and professional relationships and contribute to LPD's business development and relationship-building efforts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Washington State or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification with the ability and desire to obtain PE licensure.
- Experience with stormwater modeling software, hydraulic and hydrologic analysis, and regional stormwater regulations.
- Experience coordinating directly with permitting agencies and regulatory jurisdictions.
- Experience supporting project management activities, including scheduling, budgeting awareness, and resource coordination.
- Experience reviewing and coordinating the work of junior engineers or CAD designers.
- Demonstrated leadership potential with an interest in mentoring staff and assuming increasing project management responsibilities.
- Familiarity with construction administration services, including RFIs, submittals, site observations, and punch list coordination.

Technical Excellence
- Production of accurate, complete, and high-quality engineering plans, reports, and calculations.
- Consistent adherence to company quality standards and QA/QC procedures.
- Effective application of engineering judgment and technical problem-solving.
