Pediatric Hospitalist
$183k - $300kUCSF Health
The Department of Pediatrics at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), and UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals is recruiting clinical hospitalists across multiple pediatric practice settings. Appointments may be made at the Instructor, Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank in the Adjunct, Clinical X, or Health Sciences (HS) Clinical faculty series, with academic rank and series commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Selected candidates will join one of the nation’s premier academic pediatric health systems and established training programs. Positions may have clinical responsibilities at the San Francisco and Oakland campuses, as well as affiliated community sites, depending on the role, and will actively contribute to the Department’s mission of excellence in research, education, and patient care.
Candidates selected through this recruitment will be appointed within the Department of Pediatrics division that best aligns with their primary clinical responsibilities, training, and expertise. The Department offers a collaborative clinical environment with opportunities for faculty to develop practice portfolios that span multiple divisions or practice settings.
Faculty Role
Clinical hospitalist faculty within the Department of Pediatrics provide high-quality, evidence-based care for infants, children, and adolescents across a variety of inpatient settings. Faculty work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and play an integral role in educating and mentoring medical students, residents, fellows, and other learners. In addition to their clinical responsibilities, faculty are encouraged to develop academic interests in medical education, quality improvement, patient safety, clinical investigation, advocacy, leadership, and other areas of scholarship, supported by a strong culture of mentorship and collaboration.
Clinical Opportunities
Division of Critical Care Medicine
Hospitalists in the Division of Critical Care Medicine provide direct patient care in the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU), Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), and Transitional Care Unit (TCUP). Faculty work collaboratively with multidisciplinary critical care teams to care for critically ill infants and children, perform advanced bedside procedures, and contribute to the management of patients requiring life-sustaining therapies, including mechanical ventilation, extracorporeal life support, and continuous renal replacement therapy, under appropriate supervision.
Divisions of Hematology, Oncology, and Bone Marrow Transplant
Hospitalists within the Divisions of Hematology, Oncology, and Bone Marrow Transplant provide front-line inpatient care for children with complex hematologic, oncologic, and transplant-related conditions. Clinical responsibilities may include management of acute patient concerns, admissions, procedures, and longitudinal inpatient care in collaboration with interdisciplinary care teams.
Division of Hospital Medicine
The Division of Hospital Medicine offers opportunities to provide inpatient care across UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital’s affiliated Bay Area community hospitals. Faculty may provide care for general pediatric inpatients, newborns, and medically complex children across academic and community practice settings. Depending on the position, responsibilities may include teaching and non-teaching services, day or night coverage, emergency department consultation, high-risk delivery attendance, and newborn care.
Division of Neonatology
The Division of Neonatology offers opportunities to provide care in Level IV Intensive Care Nurseries within a nationally recognized academic medical center, as well as Level II and Level III nurseries at affiliated Bay Area community hospitals. Faculty may independently manage lower-acuity infants and participate in the care of critically ill newborns, neonatal resuscitations, and neonatal transport activities, based on their interests, qualifications, and the operational needs of the Division.
Additional clinical hospitalist opportunities within the Department of Pediatrics may become available throughout the recruitment period based on departmental priorities and candidate expertise.
