Position Overview The Office of General Counsel is seeking to hire a dynamic, collaborative, detail-oriented licensed attorney in Illinois to serve as an Assistant General Counsel for the Division of Developmental Disabilities. The Assistant General Counsel will report to the Deputy General Counsel for the Division of Developmental Disabilities and serve as a legal advisor to the Division, advising on all legal matters concerning the provision of services to individuals with developmental disabilities. This role will focus on Medicaid law, mental health court proceedings, guardianship matters, and licensing and regulation of community programs for individuals with developmental disabilities. Essential Functions Provide legal advice and counsel to the Department of Human Services programs operated by the Division of Developmental Disabilities, including State-Operated Developmental Centers, Home and Community-Based Medicaid Waiver programs, licensing of Community-Integrated Living Arrangements, and certification of Community Day Services programs. Advise staff at State-Operated Developmental Centers on guardianship procedures. Analyze, draft, and review proposed legislation, rules, administrative directives, program directives, and Medicaid waivers for the Division of Developmental Disabilities. Conduct complex legal research regarding legal issues which affect the Division of Developmental Disabilities as assigned by the Deputy General Counsel for the Division of Developmental Disabilities and/or General Counsel. Review subpoenas, search warrants, and other requests for information received by the Division of Developmental Disabilities.
