Job Title: Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) – Neuro Critical Care – Rotational Department: James | Critical Care Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant Scope of Position The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is responsible for providing health care services to patients within the parameters of a standard care or supervisory agreement with an attending physician member of the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. The APP collaborates with physicians and other clinicians to provide a full scope of patient care, focusing on preventive health or the management of acute and/or stable chronic conditions. The APP performs medical services that are specifically authorized and directed by the credentialing body and the certifying organization through which they hold licensure. Position Summary The APP provides health care services to patients in collaboration with a licensed physician member of the medical staff. Services include care during acute and chronic phases of illness, education, counseling of individuals and families, health promotion and prevention, and referral to other healthcare providers and community resources when appropriate. Additional Information The Neurocritical Care Unit (NCCU) APP role blends high‑acuity medicine, meaningful autonomy, and a collaborative team culture. APPs care for some of the hospital’s most complex patients with severe neurologic injury and multi‑organ critical illness, requiring timely, multidisciplinary management. Strong physician partnership enables a balance of independent decision‑making and interdisciplinary collaboration, making even demanding shifts manageable. APPs manage a wide range of neurologic conditions, including stroke, intracerebral and subarachnoid hemorrhage, status epilepticus, traumatic brain and spinal injuries, and neuromuscular crises, while also serving as frontline critical care clinicians for respiratory failure, shock, and acid–base disorders. APPs perform bedside procedures such as central venous catheter placement, arterial line insertion, and lumbar punctures, reinforcing clinical ownership. Beyond clinical care, APPs are actively engaged in quality improvement, patient‑safety initiatives, and advancing a culture of high reliability. Rotational shift.
