The Enfield Child Development Center (ECDC) is looking for a passionate and dedicated Lead Head Teacher to join our team!
As a Lead Head Teacher, you’ll have the opportunity to make an impact beyond your own classroom. You will help create engaging learning experiences for children, mentor and support teaching staff, build strong relationships with families, and help maintain the high-quality programming ECDC is proud to provide.
ECDC is a NAEYC-accredited early childhood program serving children and families in the Enfield community. We are looking for someone who brings energy, creativity, leadership, compassion, and a genuine commitment to helping both children and educators succeed.
What You’ll DoIn this leadership role, you will:
- Lead engaging academic and social-emotional learning experiences for children.
- Create a welcoming, nurturing, and safe classroom environment.
- Supervise, mentor, and support teachers, teacher assistants, and teacher aides.
- Model strong teaching practices and help staff grow professionally.
- Support staff in implementing ECDC’s curriculum, behavior-support practices, and assessment systems.
- Develop weekly lesson plans and support developmentally appropriate programming based on children’s individual needs and readiness.
- Build positive and professional relationships with children and families.
- Work collaboratively with ECDC administration, staff, and community partners.
- Help lead staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
- Maintain required classroom records, including attendance, accident reports, action plans, schedules, inventories, and staff appraisals.
- Help ensure the classroom meets Connecticut childcare licensing requirements, mandatory reporting requirements, NAEYC standards, and ECDC policies and procedures.
- Serve as a positive leader, role model, and resource for the ECDC team.

Applicants must have:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education with two years of experience working with young children; OR
- A Bachelor’s Degree in a closely related field with three years of experience working with young children; OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience as permitted by the position requirements.
- Head Teacher Certification.
- Experience supervising classroom staff.
- The ability to meet all applicable NAEYC accreditation requirements.
- The ability to complete required professional development.
Experience working in a nationally accredited early care and education program is preferred.
