Registered Nurse (RN) Inpatient Lactation Consultant PRN A Alexandria, VA, United States Job Identification: 679213 Posting Date: 03/19/2026, 04:00 AM Job Schedule: Part time Locations: Inova Alexandria Hospital Job Description Inova Alexandria Hospital is looking for a Registered Nurse (RN) Inpatient Lactation Consultant to join the Postpartum Unit. This role will be PRN (as-needed) night shifts starting at 7:00 PM or later. Job Responsibilities Provides safe, compassionate, and evidence-based nursing care in a patient- and family-centered manner. Performs thorough patient assessments, interprets data, and identifies care priorities. Develops and implements individualized plans of care to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Evaluates patient progress, anticipates changes, and adjusts care plans accordingly. Coordinates care and discharge planning with the healthcare team and community resources. Advocates for patients' rights and ensures their needs and preferences are respected. Maintains accurate and timely documentation in compliance with standards. Collaborates and communicates effectively with physicians, nurses, and other disciplines. Serves as a clinical resource, mentor, and preceptor to peers and new staff. Engages in professional growth, continuing education, and quality improvement initiatives. Minimum Requirements Education: BSN from an accredited school of nursing. If RN has an Associate's Degree (ADN); must complete BSN within 5 years of start date. Experience: Required 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse, for Critical Care units, 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse in a critical care setting or completion of a critical care fellowship. Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association required upon start | For Critical Care Units: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support - Within 6 Months | For Pediatric Units: Pediatric Advanced Life Support- Within 6 Months | For Infusion Center Units: Obtain chemo card- within 3 months of hire Licensure: Licensed or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse or an active multi-state Registered Nurse license Preferred Qualifications Currently holds IBCLC certification About Us We are Inova, Northern Virginia's leading nonprofit healthcare provider.
