NICU Care Assistant - Health Unit Coordinator

Job Summary and Responsibilities As our Unit Coordinator, you will be a vital caregiver and the central hub, assuming responsibility for patient care processes from newborn to geriatric for a designated time frame. You will directly contribute to safe, therapeutic patient care while serving as the primary receptionist and secretary. Every day you will support safe patient care through multidisciplinary processes and coordinating unit activities. You will efficiently manage information flow and assist healthcare team members in delivering care across all patient age groups. To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills, a proactive approach to managing day‑to‑day operations, and a commitment to providing safe, therapeutic care while working effectively with the entire healthcare team. Key Responsibilities Provides patient personal care/hygiene and physical comfort, including feeding, bathing, shaving, changing clothes, bed making, ambulation, lifting, turning, moving, transferring, skin care and bowel/bladder elimination. Also performs additional care as required based on scope of practice and patient acuity. Prepares patient, equipment, and supplies for procedures and examinations. Performs, monitors, reports, and documents all clinical activities within scope of practice. Observes and reports changes in patient condition to the RN. Obtains labels and transports samples (e.g., urine, stool, sputum, blood) and supplies nursing staff with patient data for the interdisciplinary care plan; documents relevant data per unit standards. Assists nursing staff with admission, discharge, and transfer of patients, including inventory of belongings, providing personal care items, orienting patients/families, and transporting patients to rooms or other locations using wheelchairs, stretchers, or beds. If assigned, checks, cleans, and disinfects mobile non‑critical medical equipment (e.g., IV pumps, feeding pumps, cardiac monitors, cabinets) per established standards, manufacturer instructions, and sufficient contact time. Maintains a neat, organized work environment, orders, stocks, and replenishes supplies and equipment, identifies and reports supply or equipment problems, submits repair requests, and manages equipment removal from service. Ensures only current forms are available and stocked; discards previous versions, conducts environmental roundings to verify equipment and supplies, and maintains unit appearance per protocol. Maintains a safe work and patient environment by adhering to the hospital’s safety, risk management, regulatory standards, and infection prevention. Uses hand hygiene and two patient identifiers, follows standard and transmission‑based precautions, and reports quality and safety concerns to the RN. Assists in maintaining continuous survey readiness and responds to emergencies efficiently; participates in disaster preparedness and drills. Required Qualifications Completion of an accredited Nursing Assistant program, upon hire. Military medical specialty training, upon hire. Certified Nursing Assistant: WA, upon hire. Basic Life Support (CPR), upon hire. Preferred Qualifications Six months of related work experience. Experience in a hospital setting. Experience in a specialty unit.
