Job Summary:
Cook County School District 130 is seeking a compassionate, student-centered School Nurse to join our team for the 2026-2027 school year. School nurses are valued members of our educational community who promote student wellness, provide direct nursing care, collaborate with families and staff, and help ensure every student is healthy and ready to learn. This full-time position serves multiple schools within the District and offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced educators, administrators, and fellow school nurses in a collaborative and supportive environment.


The School Nurse collaborates with administrators, teachers, families, and community healthcare providers to promote student health and wellness. Responsibilities include providing direct nursing services, managing student health records, coordinating care for students with medical needs, administering medications, responding to emergencies, supporting students with IEPs and 504 Plans, and ensuring compliance with all state health requirements.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Provide direct nursing care and emergency medical response to students.
• Assess student health concerns and make appropriate referrals.
• Administer medications and treatments in accordance with Illinois law and District procedures.
• Develop and monitor individual healthcare plans for students with medical needs.
• Participate in IEP and 504 meetings as appropriate.
• Maintain accurate student health records and required documentation.
• Monitor compliance with immunization, physical examination, and dental requirements.
• Coordinate required health screenings, including vision and hearing.
• Serve as a liaison among families, physicians, community agencies, and school personnel.
• Promote health education and wellness throughout the school community.
• Collaborate with administrators, teachers, and support staff to remove health-related barriers to student learning.

Qualifications:

• Must hold a valid and current State of Illinois Professional Educator License with a school nurse endorsement or an Illinois Registered Nursing License.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing required.
• CPR Instructor Certification preferred or willingness to obtain certification upon hire.
• Vision and hearing screening certification preferred.
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of professional nursing and the field of school health.
• Knowledge of state and local laws relevant to health and social issues.
• Ability to exercise sound professional judgment in making decisions.
• Ability to compose correspondence, reports, and/or other required written materials.
• Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office programs, such as Word and Excel, Google applications, and other school-related software.
• Must have a valid State of Illinois driver's license.
• Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

Salary and Benefits:

• Starting salary for a candidate with a PEL is $54,344, commensurate with your education and experience (Please click the link to view the current (salary schedule).
• Qualified candidates with a PEL may be granted up to twenty years of verified full-time teaching experience for credit on the salary schedule.
• The salary range for an Illinois Registered Nurse candidate is $50,000-$52,750 and is commensurate with your experience as a school nurse.
• Nurses with a PEL will be paired with an experienced nurse through our comprehensive Teacher Mentoring Program.

Working Conditions:

• Pre-K through Grade 5 Work hours: 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
• Middle School Work Hours: 7:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.
• 180 days per year - August through May
