The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Commercial Fisheries is recruiting for a Fish and Wildlife Technician 3 located in Kodiak, Alaska!

What You Will Be Doing:

This is a full-time, seasonal position located in Kodiak that is responsible for entering, verifying, and managing scallop fishery and survey data, maintaining accurate physical and electronic records, and resolving data quality issues. It also processes biological specimens for research by preparing, labeling, organizing, and shipping samples while maintaining laboratory supplies and inventory. Under the supervision of a biologist, the position may also assist with at-sea sampling by collecting biological and catch data and supporting other field and program operations, as needed.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:

This position is staffed in the ADF&G office in Kodiak, Alaska. Kodiak is a small town located on Kodiak Island and provides unparalleled opportunities for fishing, hiking, berry picking, hunting, and exploring the outdoors. The daily work environment is dynamic and includes working at a desk in an office setting, at processing plants, and occasionally living and working aboard vessels at sea. At times, this position will require working outside normal business hours and on weekends, which may include time at sea. Travel may be required to participate in scallop observer deployments and stock assessment surveys outside of standard business hours and on weekends.

• Attention to Detail: Accurately enters, verifies, and manages large volumes of biological and fishery data while identifying and correcting discrepancies.
• Data Management Skills: Proficient in maintaining organized physical and electronic records, digitizing documents, and ensuring data integrity.
• Laboratory and Specimen Handling: Safely processes, labels, organizes, and ships biological specimens following established protocols.
• Field Sampling and Technical Skills: Effectively collects biological and catch data in laboratory and at-sea environments using both paper forms and electronic data collection systems.
• Organization and Teamwork: Prioritizes multiple tasks, maintains equipment and supplies, communicates effectively with biologists and team members, and supports overall program operations.
