Environmental Scientist I/II/III/Sr - AGL

Summary The environmental scientist position requires a dynamic individual with an environmental science, geology, biology, chemistry, or civil engineering background, the ability to work flexible hours (but primarily Monday-Friday), and a willingness to travel periodically. The position will be extremely active and will include a variety of field assignments and office work. Knowledge of environmental laws and regulations is a plus, as well as technical writing skills. The position requires an individual who is looking to advance their career opportunities and would like to be involved with a diversity of assignments including, but not limited to, collecting, synthesizing and documentation of data from investigative areas and assisting in the preparation of project documentation. Will provide support for field activities as needed for projects, which may include field site supervision, site inspections and collection of field samples for laboratory analysis. The salary range for this position is $59,875-$123,652, please note this is a tiered position. Essential Duties and Responsibilities – All Levels Conduct and oversee site investigation and assessments in accordance with Federal and State regulatory guidelines and as directed by project staff Determine data collection methods to be employed in site surveys and investigations Collect and interpret environmental sampling data and provide field consultations Read specifications such as GIS and CAD figures to determine project requirements and to help in planning procedures Prepare technical plans and reports using Federal and State guidelines Adhere to schedule and financial objectives as specified project management Identify and evaluate corrective actions for individual or groups of sites Enhance company and organization reputation by accepting ownership for the team performance and adding value to assigned tasks Provide scientific and technical guidance, support, coordination, and/or oversight to project staff preparing written project documentation Review and document the processes necessary to obtain environmental permits, licenses, and other requirements necessary to achieve environmental restoration project objectives Review and document environmental technical standards, guidelines, policies, and formal regulations to ensure proposals meet all appropriate requirements Examine and inspect work progress, equipment, and construction sites to verify safety and to ensure that project specifications are met Examine and inspect sites and facilities to verify Federal and State regulatory requirements are met Record information such as personnel, production, and operational data on specified forms and reports; communicate with project management Prepare tables, charts, graphs, or figures from sample data, providing summary information on the environmental relevance of the data Meet safety responsibilities and goals Achieve quality requirements Understand best management practices as they relate to environmental investigations Perform any other duties as assigned by management Level - I Project assistance to program and project managers; scope, schedule, and budget on assigned tasks Execute assigned tasks in accordance work plans and direction from higher-level staff Acquire and/or develop an area of technical expertise Engage program and project managers for task assignments 50%–60% of time may be spent conducting fieldwork, potentially in remote locations Level - II Provide client assistance to program and project managers; scope, schedule, and budget on projects Maintain 1-2 areas of technical expertise Lead teams performing project tasks, both in the office and field locations Technical project execution and document preparation, peer review project documents Assist with task order and project proposals Technical mentoring 30%–50% of time may be spent conducting fieldwork, potentially in remote locations Level - III Provide client assistance to program and project managers; scope, schedule, and budget on projects Maintain 2 areas of technical expertise Lead teams performing project tasks, both in the office and field locations Lead technical project execution and document preparation, peer review project documents Assist with task order and project bid proposals Project staffing and technical mentoring Manage smaller projects involving site inspections, site characterization, environmental sampling, long-term monitoring and similar tasks 20%–40% of time may be spent conducting fieldwork, potentially in remote locations Level - Senior Provide client assistance to program and project managers; scope, schedule, and budget on projects Maintain 2-3 areas of technical expertise Lead technical project execution and document preparation, senior review project documents Prepare task order and project bid proposals Project staffing and technical mentoring Manage smaller projects involving site inspections, site characterization, environmental sampling, long-term monitoring and similar tasks 10% – 25% of time may be spent conducting field work, potentially in remote locations Minimum Qualifications All levels Bachelor’s Degree in Physical/Environmental Sciences, Engineering, or similarly related field Valid Driver’s License with clean driving record, able to drive company vehicle US Citizen Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite and databases such as Access and PowerPoint Adept at explaining technical aspects of field work to internal and external clients verbally and in writing Level - I Zero (0) to Three (3) years of relevant working experience, specialized training and/or advanced degree such as MS may be substituted for work experience Level - II Three (3) to Five (5) years of relevant working experience, specialized training and/or advanced degree such as MS may be substituted for work experience Level - III Five (5) to Seven (7) years of relevant working experience, specialized training and/or advanced degree such as MS may be substituted for work experience Level - Senior Eight (8) or more years of relevant working experience, specialized training and/or advanced degree such as MS may be substituted for work experience Professional certification such as Certified Environmental Professional, Certified Environmental Manager, Professional Engineer, Professional Geologist, or equivalent Preferred Qualifications Current 40-Hour HAZWOPER 8 Hour HAZWOPER Refresher CPR/1st Aid Certified Experience working on projects with Federal clients Experience with Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLE) and, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and, California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) compliance including, but not limited to, tracking actions, needing environmental review, drafting documents, (e.g. record of environmental consideration and categorical exclusions), plan/design reviews, validating missing data with project proponents as needed, etc. Experience implementing California State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) stormwater compliance requirements and statewide trash provisions for Small Municipal Storm Sewer Systems (MS4s; Order 2003-0005- DWQ) for the discharge of stormwater from Small MS4s (smaller municipalities population less than 100,000) and non-traditional Small MS4s, which include military bases.
