Position Overview

The Respiratory Therapist will be responsible for evaluating and providing care to patients requiring respiratory therapy. This includes administering prescribed therapeutic services.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients to determine the appropriate type and frequency of treatment, developing a tailored care plan based on their diagnosis.
• Deliver respiratory care services in alignment with physician orders, departmental policies, and established guidelines.
• Implement and oversee the patient care plan and equipment, while monitoring, documenting, and communicating the patient's condition.
• Perform advanced respiratory care techniques and assess the effectiveness of treatments and medication administration based on patient outcomes.
• Educate patients and their families about health conditions and provide resources for community support groups and programs.
• Assist in the care, calibration, and maintenance of all respiratory equipment, ensuring departmental inventory levels are maintained.
• Respond promptly to medical emergencies and rapid response situations.
• Maintain a state of alertness and safety while performing duties.
• Carry out additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

• Education: An Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy or equivalent experience and education.
• Experience: No prior experience is necessary.

Physical Demands

• Regularly use speech for effective oral communication.
• Frequent standing and walking are required.
• Occasional lifting, carrying, and pushing/pulling objects weighing between 0-25 lbs, with some tasks involving weights of 25-50 lbs.
• Regular sitting, reaching, and data entry tasks.
• Frequent visual acuity for near and far distances, as well as color differentiation.
• Utilize smell for detecting odors and hearing for receiving communication and identifying alarms.
• Occasional patient handling and movements, including bending, stooping, and driving.

Licensure and Certifications

• Must hold a valid Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
• Respiratory Care Practitioner license from the Missouri Division of Professional Registration, or a Respiratory Educ Permit.

Work Schedule

This position is classified as a Night Shift role, requiring a commitment of 36 hours per week.
