Professor of Practice-Museum Studies The Museum Studies Program at the University of New Mexico invites applications for a Professor of Practice in Museum Studies to begin in August 10, 2026. This is a full‑time, Professor of Practice position in Museum Studies. Applicants must have a terminal degree (Master’s, MFA, or PhD) in Museum Studies or a related field by June 30, 2026. We seek an accomplished individual who demonstrates a commitment to interdisciplinary practice, who can offer undergraduate and graduate courses in Museum Studies, and who is prepared to take an active role in mentoring students in a Master’s program with an excellent record of preparing our graduates for careers in the museum profession. Duties include teaching courses in‑person and online in the Program each semester. The successful candidate will hold a terminal degree in Museum Studies or a related discipline with significant experience as a museum professional and work with Native American heritage and communities. Qualifications Terminal degree (Masters, MFA or PhD) with specialization in Museum Studies or a related discipline, awarded by June 30, 2026. A minimum of three years of professional museum work. Preferred Qualifications Range of work experience in museum or cultural institutions. Record of publication or completed projects with a focus on Native American heritage. Teaching experience at the university or college level, including ability to teach upper‑division courses and graduate seminars in Museum Studies. Interest and/or experience in mentoring advanced undergraduates and graduate students; experience in or potential for building relationships and/or collaborative projects with Native communities. A commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the University’s mission to serve local and global communities.
