CNC Machine Operator

DESCRIPTION

Machine Operators produce machined parts under close supervision by operating computer numerical control (CNC) machines. The position requires employees to maintain quality and safety standards, accurate time and record keeping, and demonstrate superior cleanliness and organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Practice safety standards as identified by the Company Handbook, orientation, and verbal instruction from supervisory staff. This includes safety glasses, proper shoes, lifting techniques, and safe chip handling.
• Maintain clean and organized gage tables and work area. This includes wiping down machines following Chips' guidelines and mopping floors at the end of each shift.
• Proficient in completing production tags and production logs. Must be able to write in a clear and legible manner.
• Accurately perform all functions required at clock emulator, which includes punching in and out at the beginning and end of each shift.
• Use scales to weigh and count production pieces.
• Pull chips when required or instructed and place in proper material location.
• Check and record Heat Lot numbers.
• Read and understand a Job Traveler. This includes, but is not limited to, rate, quantity, revision level, part number and alternate part number, and sequence of operation.
• Starting and ending "job" time keeping from the Job Traveler at the clock emulator.
• Identify and notify supervisor or department leaders of emulator status and production log when jobs are complete.
• Read a micrometer, dial caliper, and demonstrate the ability to use and "set master'' an indicator micrometer.
• Use, understand, and be able to communicate proper techniques for go/no go gauging, pins, thread rings, and plugs.
• Read and interpret low complexity blueprints and drawings.
• Complete In-process inspection reports accurately. Notify Supervisor or set-up person of out of spec conditions.
• Use effectively Oasis vision System for part inspection when available and instructed.
• Conduct visual inspections on all production parts to ensure workmanship and those parts are free of contamination and debris.
• Demonstrate, and communicate proper techniques for Chips Mfg., Inc. 3-Pan Method.
• Show repeated competency by maintaining limited individual MRB events.
• Offset machines in X, Y, and Z axis using offset sheet. Understand machine tool coordinate system and the difference between wear and geometry offsets.
• Operate 6 machines effectively.
• Green production tag awarded by joint decision of Production Manager, Supervisor, and Quality Manager.
• Change stick tools including knurls.
• Change reamers, drills, and boring bars, live and static.
• Read and understand tool layout sheets and medium to complex blueprints.
• Understand and demonstrate tool selection via vending machine and tool crib.
• Can explain and identify different nose radius tools to ensure correct inserts are being used.
• Recognize, understand, and demonstrate proper inspection for GD&T.
• Start any machine from a complete stop, non-running condition.
• Understand Torx and Torx Plus tools and screws.
• Guide and Entry Level and Level B Operators

• Employee is regularly required to stand, use hands to handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
