OB/GYN Physician (Per Diem) | Bridgeport, Connecticut

The successful candidate will play an integral role in the academic and clinical missions of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology through the education and supervision of residents, medical students, and Physician Assistant students. This position includes oversight of Advanced Practice Providers in both ambulatory and inpatient settings and requires a strong commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, and high-reliability healthcare practices. The faculty member will actively participate in scholarly activities, continuing medical education, and faculty development programs while contributing to the advancement of clinical care, education, and research across the health system.

Responsibilities

• Provide supervision and instruction to residents across all aspects of Obstetrics and Gynecology, including outpatient continuity clinics, Labor and Delivery, major and minor surgical procedures, and inpatient obstetric and gynecologic care.
• Teach and promote evidence-based medicine principles within clinical practice and educational settings.
• Supervise and educate Yale School of Medicine medical students in both clinical and didactic environments.
• Provide clinical oversight and mentorship to advanced practice providers (APPs) and other midlevel providers in ambulatory and inpatient settings.
• Participate in departmental, hospital, and medical staff committees as requested.
• Champion and contribute to quality improvement, patient safety, and clinical excellence initiatives within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
• Engage in scholarly activities, including research, publications, presentations, and other academic pursuits consistent with faculty expectations.
• Participate in residency program administration and educational activities to support trainee development and program excellence.
• Maintain ongoing professional development through participation in continuing medical education (CME) and specialty-related educational programs.
• Contribute to the academic mission of Yale School of Medicine through teaching, mentorship, clinical innovation, and service.

Qualifications

• Medical Degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.
• Board Certified or Board Eligible by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG).
• Demonstrated clinical expertise in General Obstetrics and Gynecology, including minimally invasive gynecologic surgery.
• Experience in administrative leadership within a high-reliability healthcare organization.
• Supervisory experience involving resident physicians and medical students.
• Proven teaching experience in medical education utilizing evidence-based educational models.

• Current and unrestricted Connecticut Medical License (or eligibility to obtain).
• Current Medical Staff appointment with specialty-appropriate clinical privileges.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

• Interest and training in gynecologic ultrasound.
• Experience in clinical research methodology and statistical analysis.
• Experience providing family planning services.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills.
• Commitment to academic medicine, resident education, and quality patient care.

Physical and Health Requirements

• MMR vaccination required.
• Varicella (chickenpox) vaccination or documented evidence of prior infection required.
• Hepatitis B vaccination series or signed declination required for individuals with potential exposure to blood or body fluids.
• Tdap vaccination strongly encouraged.
• Annual influenza vaccination strongly encouraged.
