Description Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) – 0.60 FTE, 48 hours bi‑weekly. 12‑hour shifts: 7 am–7 pm (weekday) and 8 am–4:30 pm on assigned Saturdays. Weekends: every 4th. Holidays: occasionally. Position Overview The HUC processes provider orders, schedules appointments, maintains resident records, performs clerical duties, and assists nursing staff in coordinating care. The HUC interacts frequently with providers, vendors, and support staff to ensure seamless resident care, and maintains electronic medical records. Key Responsibilities Accurately and efficiently process provider orders and enter them into the electronic medical record. Communicate high‑priority orders or situations to licensed nurses in a timely manner. Support scheduling, forms, and clinical notes with physicians and associate‑level providers continuously. Ensure accuracy of resident orders or information through frequent interaction with the interdisciplinary team. Coordinate appointments, transportation, and transfer of health records with other departments and facilities. Act as first contact for residents, families, and visitors on the unit, providing professional and courteous treatment. Coordinate resident/visitor flow, preserving privacy and confidentiality. Maintain an orderly nursing station environment using lean principles and stock necessary supplies. Remain vigilant to resident safety needs, taking precautions and communicating concerns to licensed nurses promptly. Participate in and support continuous improvement initiatives. Assist with unit needs as directed by nursing personnel and continuously support physicians and providers. Demonstrate safe and effective resident care support. Complete all mandatory training required by Winona Health. Use public address codes effectively. Show exceptional communication skills in clinical processes and daily unit interactions. Required Skills and Experience Completion of a Medical Secretary, HUC, or LPN program. Preferred Skills Experience as Medical Secretary or HUC. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Electronic Medical Records. Physical Demands Light work. May lift up to 20 lb rarely, 15 lb occasionally, and 10 lb frequently. Push/pull 20‑lb carts, occasional 40‑lb items. Work may involve bending, stooping, squatting, or kneeling occasionally. Physical Requirements May lift and carry supplies weighing 10‑15 lb; max 20 lb. May push/pull carts frequently with a 20‑lb force (laundry, office, vacuum, meal carts). May occasionally push/pull residents in a wheelchair short distances. May reach vertically 20‑36″ in either sitting or standing; occasional reaching at 18‑20″ and 40‑72″. May reach front, side, or above shoulder height while sitting or standing. May need light to moderate grip or pinch force. This is a fast‑paced environment requiring multitasking, prioritization, and frequent interruptions. Continuous interpersonal communication with staff, volunteers, and the public is required. Required Work Schedule Generally 12‑hour weekday shifts (7 am–7 pm). Rotate every 4th Saturday (8 am–4:30 pm). Hours may vary with staffing needs. Some weekday holidays may be required; no major holidays.
