The Employee Health, Infection Prevention & Nurse Education Coordinator is responsible for the design, implementation, and oversight of three interrelated functions critical to organizational safety and quality: employee health services, infection prevention and control, and nursing professional development. This role safeguards the health and safety of the hospital's workforce, protects patients and staff from healthcare-associated infections and communicable disease exposure, and ensures nursing staff are competently onboarded, trained, and developed. The position requires independent clinical judgment, timely action on health and safety findings, and close coordination with hospital leadership, medical staff, and public health authorities. This is a full time, 40 hr per week position. A $7,000 hire bonus is eligible with this role.

Qualifications

•             Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Nebraska.

•             Associate or Bachelor of Science in Nursing required; BSN strongly preferred.

•             Minimum two years of clinical nursing experience; experience in infection prevention, employee health, or staff education preferred.

•             Certification in Infection Control (CIC) preferred, or willingness to obtain within an established timeframe.

•             Working knowledge of CDC, OSHA, CMS, and Nebraska DHHS regulations relevant to infection control and employee health.

•             Strong independent clinical judgment 

•             Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including comfort presenting to leadership and committees.

•             Proficiency with the hospital's electronic health record and employee health documentation systems.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Employee Health

•             Conduct pre-employment and periodic health screenings, including TB risk assessments, TST/IGRA testing and follow-up and interpretation of screening results, immunization review, and respirator fit testing.

•             Assessing symptomatic employees and determining work restriction or fitness for duty.

•             Review and act on all screening and diagnostic results within established timeframes

•             Maintain accurate, confidential employee health records in compliance with OSHA, CDC, and state regulations.

•             Coordinate work restrictions, return-to-work clearances, and accommodations in partnership with HR.

•             Manage bloodborne pathogen exposure follow-up and post-exposure protocols.

•             Track and report employee immunization and screening compliance rates to leadership.

Infection Prevention

•             Develop, implement, and maintain infection prevention and control policies consistent with CDC, CMS, and state health department requirements.

•             Conduct surveillance for healthcare-associated infections; analyze trends and lead corrective action when thresholds are exceeded.

•             Serve as the hospital's liaison to local and state public health authorities for reportable disease conditions and outbreak response.

•             Lead and document regular infection prevention huddles and committee meetings.

•             Provide infection control education and competency validation to clinical and non-clinical staff.

•             Participate in environment-of-care rounding and survey readiness activities related to infection control.

Nurse Education

•             Coordinate new hire nursing orientation, onboarding, and preceptor assignments.

•             Develop and deliver ongoing competency validation, skills fairs, and continuing education programming for nursing staff.

•             Maintain compliance tracking for mandatory nursing education, certifications, and license renewals.

•             Support implementation of new clinical protocols, equipment, and EHR workflows through targeted staff education.

•             Partner with unit managers to identify skill or knowledge gaps and design corrective education plans.

Working Conditions

•             Primarily hospital-based with regular movement throughout all clinical departments, including direct patient care areas.

•             May require occasional evening, weekend, or on-call availability during outbreak response or urgent employee health situations.

•             Potential exposure to communicable diseases and bloodborne pathogens; adherence to standard precautions required.
