\nJob Summary
\nThe Medical Director of Adolescent Inpatient Psychiatry and Substance Use Disorder Medical Management services leads and provides clinical care to service line(s) in the department of Behavioral Health Services (BHS). This role supervises other physicians and clinicians both clinically and administratively. Duties include managing call schedules, approving timecards, providing feedback on job performance, and overseeing clinical and operational metrics related to quality, safety, productivity, finances, and other relevant metrics and targets. Additionally, this role will manage and coach staff to meet targets within these metrics and to provide departmental leaders with regular updates on the progress toward meeting targets in these metrics. Recruits new clinicians and works collaboratively with nursing and operational leaders to provide excellent clinical care and a safe work environment. Provides expert assessment and clinical psychiatric care including diagnosis and treatment of patients with complex, co-occurring medical, psychiatric and substance use disorders; homelessness, poverty, and treatment-resistance. Provides teaching and scholarly work in their area of expertise.
What you will do \n- \n
- Provide expert care, scholarly work and training while leading other providers, clinical staff and administrative personnel as needed. \n
- Diagnose and treat adolescents with psychiatric and/or substance use disorders who require inpatient level of psychiatric care and/or ASAM 3.7/3.7 Withdrawal Management level of substance use treatment \n
- Focus on Superior Patient Care by 1) practicing evidence-based, high-quality state-of-the art medicine; 2) encourage increased patient understanding, involvement in care, and treatment decisions; 3) achieve and maintain optimal patient access; 4) insist on departmental focus on superior patient service; 5) assisting with patients who have barriers to disposition; 6) work with community partners (e.g. Signal, CDHS) to improve outcomes and access to community resources; and 7) participate in or support education and research. \n
- Collaborate on Care Delivery by 1) leading multidisciplinary teams of case managers, discharge planners, nursing, occupational therapy, psychotherapists, physicians, and other professionals to provide clinical care and meeting with non-direct report disciplines’ leadership; 2) including staff, other physicians and management in both service and patient care improvements; 3) treating all members with respect; 4) demonstrating the highest levels of ethical and professional conduct; and 5) behaving in a manner consistent with Denver Health values and goals. \n
- Listen and Communicate by 1) providing clinical information in a clear and timely manner; 2) requesting information and resources needed to provide care consistent with Denver Health goals; and 3) provide and accept feedback in a respectful manner from all staff. \n
- Take Ownership by 1) providing leadership to focus on and improve clinically relevant outcome measures and service quality; 2) work to ensure personal, departmental and organization compliance with all legal, regulatory (both CRS 27-65 and 27-81), and educational requirements; 3) steadily improve the efficiency and economic aspects of your practice; and 4) design, implement, supervise, and refine unit workflows and assist with refinement of patient flow across behavioral health service lines; 5) Change by embracing innovations to continuously improve patient care, service and organizational efficiency. \n
- Provide training by teaching residents, medical students, and advanced trainees from psychiatric and other health disciplines (including nationally accredited training programs) while supporting these GME training programs so they can continue to have their learners train on site. \n
Qualifications
\n- \n
- Doctorate Degree in psychiatry from an accredited medical school. Required \n
- Board Certification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Required \n
- Board Certification in Addiction Psychiatry or Addiction Medicine Preferred \n
- 3 years post-fellowship experience Required \n
- Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures and techniques. \n
- Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents, including buprenorphine, used in patient treatment. \n
- Able to effectively manage and direct medical staff support activities while providing quality medical care. \n
- Able to receive detailed information through oral communications; express or exchange ideas by verbal communications. \n
- Excellent written and verbal communications, listening, and social skills. \n
- Able to interact effectively with people of varied educational, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds, skill levels and value systems. \n
- Performs in a tactful and professional manner. \n
- A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. \n
- Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. \n
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite required. \n
- EPIC experience preferred. \n
- MD-Physician - State Medical Board Required and \n
- BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross Required \n
