Position Overview Part‑Time Biologist – National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute on Aging (NIA), Baltimore, Maryland. Provide services and deliverables through performance of support services. Responsibilities Perform molecular biology techniques including RNA sequencing, real‑time PCR, Western blotting, and protein analysis. Conduct immunostaining and produce high quality images using confocal microscopy to locate distribution of key proteins in cardiac myocytes and sinoatrial node cells. Perform cell culture and adenoviral transfection of cardiac myocytes and sinoatrial node cells. Execute various bioassays and radioimmunoassays. Prepare and maintain animal study protocols. Perform data analysis for physiology and biochemical assays and prepare results for presentation and/or publication. Maintain a research tracking system and database; submit weekly research activity summaries to the investigator. Participate in laboratory meetings, present data, discuss results, and assist in manuscript preparation. Operate and perform routine maintenance on laboratory instruments and equipment; ensure scientific supplies are stocked and reorder as needed. Train students and postdoctoral fellows in laboratory techniques and uphold laboratory safety procedures. Collaborate with laboratory scientists to plan and manage components of research projects. Identify and recommend resolution of data discrepancies and determine appropriate data to use or report. Qualifications Master’s degree in Biotechnology or a related discipline. Field of study in Biology. Experience with histopathologic studies of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular remodeling in aging. Knowledge of cardiovascular diseases in both humans and animal models. Proficiency with MS Office suite. Ability to perform basic laboratory experiments, statistical analysis, and document results accurately.
