We are seeking an eager to learn Summer Law Clerk to work closely with our guardianship department. The Summer Law Clerk will also assist other departments including estate planning, estate administration, estate litigation, and Medicaid, as needed.

This is a full-time summer position, but a part-time schedule may be offered during the school year based on availability.

Position Summary:

The Summer Law Clerk will assist the guardianship department and provide administrative support across departments. The Summer Law Clerk will conduct legal research, assist with drafting Article 81 Guardianship petitions, prepare mailings, and maintain organized case files. Prior experience with Article 81 Guardianships, estate planning, and/or knowledge of Medicaid planning preferred. Occasional travel may be required.

This position is fully on-site and requires a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree to be in progress at an accredited law school.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide legal and administrative support to the guardianship department.
• Work closely with the Executive Paralegal who will provide direction and assign a workload.
• Assist with the drafting of Article 81 Guardianship petitions.
• Review and proofread drafted legal documents for accuracy.
• Track and maintain case files, ensuring all documents are organized, up-to-date, and compliant with firm and regulatory requirements.
• Provide support for rush court filings.
• Assist with setting up new matters in Clio Manage.
• Ensure accurate data entry into the correct matters in Clio Manage.
• Provide scanning, archiving, and filing assistance across departments.
• Handle process serving and go to court as needed.
• Drop off important mailings at the post office.
• Multitask and remain organized while working on multiple cases.
• Handle confidential client information with the highest level of professionalism and integrity.
• All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree in progress at an accredited law school.
• Prior coursework related to Article 81 Guardianships, estate planning, estate administration, probate, and/or knowledge of Medicaid planning strongly preferred.
• Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively in a team environment.
• Must be knowledgeable of Microsoft Suite including Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Prior experience with Clio Manage and/or Clio Billing preferred.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
