Attorney-Adviser (Trademark)

Overview The Office of Trademarks Quality Review and Training (QTQRT) supports excellence in trademark examination through quality review and training. The incumbent reviews sampled trademark applications, analyzes data to identify issues, recommends policy and procedural improvements, and develops and delivers legal training to varied audiences. The work is collaborative, challenging, and essential to maintaining high-quality trademark examination. Qualifications Candidates must meet the United States Office of Personnel Management’s (OPM) qualification requirements—including specialized experience and/or educational requirements—for the advertised position. All eligibility and qualifications must be met by the closing date of the job announcement. OPM Qualifications Standards are available at General Attorney Series, 0905. Specialized experience for this position includes: Experience applying trademark law, policy, practice, and procedure relating to the examination of applications for trademark registration; Experience recommending changes to trademark policy and procedures; Experience developing, preparing, and presenting legal trainings in a variety of formats to a variety of audiences. AND Professional Legal Experience —a minimum of four (4) years of post‑J.D. professional law/legal experience is required. This experience should demonstrate breadth and depth in rendering professional legal advice and services with respect to questions, regulations, practices, or other matters falling within the purview of a federal government agency, private sector, law firm, or other organization. It should include: Preparing interpretative and administrative orders, rules, or regulations to give effect to the provisions of governing statutes or other requirements of law; Drafting, negotiating, or examining contracts or other legal documents; Drafting, preparing formal comments, or making substantive recommendations regarding proposed legislation; Editing and preparing for publication statutes enacted by Congress and opinions or decisions of a court, commission, or board; Drafting and reviewing decisions for consideration and adoption by an organization or official; Conducting investigations to obtain facts, determine questions of law, and study, analyze and evaluate legal precedents; Acting as principal attorney in charge of the preparation and presentation of cases; Recommending policies and developing procedures and regulations to implement new or amended legislation; Acting as legal, general, or senior counsel to a major firm or organization. Experience may include paid and unpaid work, such as volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations. Volunteer experience that develops critical competencies, knowledge, and skills can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment, and all qualifying experience will be credited. #J-18808-Ljbffr U.S. Department of Commerce
