Physical Therapist
The Physical Therapist will provide direct patient care to help restore patient's function, alleviate pain, and prevent disabilities by planning and administering medically prescribed physical therapy. Essential duties and responsibilities include:
- Adhering to professional, ethical, and legal standards of practice.
- Meeting the patient's goals and needs and providing quality care by assessing and interpreting evaluations and test results; determining physical therapy treatment plans in consultation with providers or by prescription.
- Helping patient accomplish treatment plan and accept therapeutic devices by administering manual exercises; instructing, encouraging, and assisting patients in performing physical activities, such as non-manual exercises, ambulatory functional activities, and daily-living activities and in using assistive and supportive devices, such as crutches, canes, and prostheses.
- Administering physical therapy treatments through physical and modality agents and directing/supervising treatments given by physical therapy assistants.
- Evaluating effects of physical therapy treatments and fit of prosthetic and orthotic devices by observing, noting, and evaluating patient's progress; recommending adjustments and modifications.
- Completing discharge planning by consulting with providers, nurses, social workers, and other health care workers; contributing to patient care conferences.
- Assurance of continuation of therapeutic plan following discharge by designing home exercise programs; instructing patients, families, and caregivers in home exercise programs; recommending equipment or community programs or further services.
- Documenting patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
- Maintaining patient confidence and protecting hospital operations by keeping information confidential. Adheres to all HIPAA and privacy laws.
- Maintaining a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Protecting patients and employees by adhering to all hospital policies and procedures including infection-control policies and protocols.
- Ensuring operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
- Maintaining professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
- Complying with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
- Contributing to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Demonstrating clear ownership of workplace and patient safety.
- Reporting mistakes, near misses, adverse events, and quality and safety concerns.
- Participating in the development and implementation of safety and quality improvement activities.
- Any other duties as assigned.
Job qualification requirements include:
- Education: Graduate from an accredited program of physical therapy.
- Licensure/Certification: Current Indiana Physical Therapy license in good standing required.
- Experience: Two years of previous experience preferred.
- Ability to plan, implement, administer, and coordinate a physical therapy program, from eligibility determination to exit.
- Ability to select and administer appropriate assessment tools and interpret results of assessment.
Physical requirements include standing, walking, sitting; transferring and/or lifting patients or equipment and managing equipment.
