Board Certified Art Therapist
Toneworks™
Build Your Career at Toneworks Toneworks is a community-based, multidisciplinary therapeutic service provider committed to creating meaningful connections, fostering belonging, and supporting people as whole individuals, not simply through diagnoses or support needs. Through music therapy, therapeutic programming, and the Therapeutic Learning Center, Toneworks integrates clinical care into everyday experiences and opportunities for choice, creativity, and contribution. Toneworks believes the strongest clinical models are built by listening to the people we serve and learning from real experiences. Clinicians are encouraged not only to provide care, but also to identify patterns, develop new approaches, and help shape systems that create lasting impact. About the Role You'll work primarily with children, adolescents, and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, complex and co-occurring diagnoses, and other significant support needs — within our Therapeutic Learning Center and across the broader Toneworks community. At Toneworks, we believe art therapy can be more than a scheduled weekly session. As the Art Therapist, you will be embedded within the Therapeutic Learning Center while also working across the broader Toneworks community. This role combines direct clinical practice with consultation, interdisciplinary co-therapy, therapeutic groups, assessment, staff education, and protected development time. Rather than building a traditional full-time individual caseload, you will have the opportunity to determine how art therapy can best support each participant and strengthen the programs around them. You will help Toneworks explore how creative processes can deepen our understanding of expression, identity, autonomy, emotional experience, meaning, and contribution. The Clinical Lens You will help us continually ask questions that may not be fully captured by functional goals alone: Who is this person beyond their diagnosis and support needs? What matters to them, and how do they show us what matters? What do they want to express, create, remember, process, or contribute? Where do they have genuine authorship and meaningful choice? What emotions, relationships, or life experiences may be shaping participation? How can creative processes reveal strengths, preferences, identity, and personal voice that traditional assessment may miss? What You'll Do This position is intentionally designed to give you protected time to develop the practice rather than filling every available hour with individual sessions: Direct Clinical Services — approximately 20–25 hours per week Provide ongoing individual and short-term/episodic art therapy — assessment, individualized treatment goals, and progress monitoring — for a target of approximately 20 hours per week, delivered within the Therapeutic Learning Center and across Toneworks programs. Focus areas may include identity, grief, transitions, relationships, emotional processing, regulation, and self-advocacy. Provide embedded consultation, co-therapy, and interdisciplinary contributions for a target of approximately 3–5 hours per week, including: Co-treating with Music Therapy, the Communication & Accessibility Manager (Speech-Language Pathology), Recreation Therapy, and other professionals Participating in complex case consultations and interdisciplinary problem-solving Observing and consulting on routines, groups, transitions, and community preparation within the Therapeutic Learning Center Coaching staff on integrating creative-expressive supports into daily programming Administrative & Development Time — approximately 15 hours per week Develop individualized treatment goals, monitor progress, and maintain timely, compliant documentation. Develop and facilitate therapeutic groups focused on identity and self-expression, relationships and belonging, grief and life transitions, confidence and self-advocacy, and personal storytelling. Contribute to assessment and documentation tools that capture interests, autonomy, self-concept, and creative strengths — dimensions traditional functional assessment may miss. Use approximately 15% of total role time — protected, and not intended to become overflow caseload time — for Expression & Identity Development: identifying patterns across participants, creating staff resources and training, piloting groups and short-term interventions, and developing ethical practices around authorship, consent, ownership, attribution, privacy, and display of participant-created work. Provide family education when clinically relevant. What We're Looking For We are looking for an Art Therapist who is clinically thoughtful, curious, collaborative, and interested in building something. You might be a great fit if you: See creative expression as a meaningful form of communication and connection Are curious about the person behind the diagnosis or treatment goal Balance creativity with strong clinical reasoning Value participant autonomy, authorship, dignity, and choice Enjoy working alongside professionals from different disciplines Can move comfortably between individual treatment, consultation, groups, and program environments Are comfortable adapting your approach based on participant needs Want to contribute ideas rather than simply follow an established model Enjoy identifying patterns and turning clinical observations into better practices Want to help shape what art therapy can look like within a multidisciplinary organization Qualifications Required: Master's degree in Art Therapy or related qualifying field Appropriate art therapy credentials and/or eligibility for applicable certification or licensure Ability to provide clinical services within a multidisciplinary team Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills Commitment to person-centered, strengths-based, and dignity-focused practice Ability to work in person within the Therapeutic Learning Center Preferred: Experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities Experience in interdisciplinary or community-based settings Experience facilitating therapeutic groups Experience with consultation, staff education, or program development Interest in developing new models of clinical service delivery Why Toneworks? You can find a job providing art therapy in a lot of places. We want Toneworks to be a place where you can build a career while helping shape how creative therapies are understood and practiced. You will have the opportunity to practice clinically, learn deeply from the people and programs around you, collaborate across disciplines, and turn your clinical discoveries into better systems. Practice Independently, Without Practicing Alone You will work alongside music therapists, speech-language pathologists, recreational therapists, program staff, and other professionals who bring different perspectives to the same person and the same goals. We believe those relationships make better clinicians. Your expertise will strengthen the team, and the team will challenge and expand your own clinical thinking. Find Your Path There is no single definition of professional growth at Toneworks. Your role may evolve toward deeper clinical expertise, program development, interdisciplinary practice, staff education, community partnerships, clinical leadership, or developing new areas of specialization. You do not need to know exactly where you want your career to go. We want to give you the opportunity to discover it. Help Build What's Next This position is not simply about adding art therapy to an existing service model. It is an opportunity to help Toneworks discover what becomes possible when art therapy is integrated into everyday therapeutic environments. If you notice a gap, see a better approach, or have an idea worth exploring, we want you to have the space to develop it. Be a Human at Work We care deeply about clinical excellence and about creating a workplace built on curiosity, authenticity, respect, collaboration, growth, and humor. We want you to do meaningful work, keep becoming better at it, enjoy the people you work with, and have a life outside of work. Benefits & Investment in You As a full-time Toneworks employee, your support includes: Medical, dental, and vision insurance with HSA option Life insurance HealthiestYou Telemedicine EAP 401K with employer match Paid time off Licensure and credentialing fees covered Dedicated clinical supervision toward certification/licensure, provided internally Internal training and ongoing professional supervision Dedicated resource coordination for clinical materials and resources Clinical and director support for case consultation and problem-solving Interdisciplinary access to professionals across communication, recreation, accessibility, behavior, independent living, and other areas of support Opportunities to develop expertise, contribute ideas, and grow beyond your individual caseload We believe exceptional services require exceptional teams. That means creating an environment where asking questions is encouraged, different disciplines learn from one another, and clinicians have the opportunity to understand not only what they are doing, but why. At Toneworks, you will have the opportunity to help build a more creative, collaborative, affirming, and ambitious approach to therapeutic services. #J-18808-Ljbffr Toneworks™
