About the Opportunity


We are seeking a highly technical, hands-on Lead Payments Engineer to help architect and build the next generation of our cloud-native payments platform. This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives in fast-moving environments, enjoys solving complex distributed systems challenges, and wants to play a key role in transforming how payment systems operate at scale.


You will lead the design and implementation of real-time payment services, modernize legacy integrations, and help establish engineering best practices across the organization. This is a high-impact opportunity to shape platform architecture, influence technical direction, and drive an AI-first engineering culture.

What You'll Do

Build the New Payments Platform

• Design and implement cloud-native payment services on Azure, replacing legacy batch-based processing with event-driven, real-time payment pipelines.
• Develop scalable systems that process member and physician payments with high availability, resiliency, and full auditability.
• Establish infrastructure-as-code standards, CI/CD pipelines, observability practices, automated testing strategies, and deployment patterns across engineering teams.
• Lead the architecture and expansion of future payment capabilities, including real-time payment transaction processing and scalable integrations.
• Drive delivery of the payments roadmap, supporting initiatives across enrollments, EHR integrations, membership lifecycle management, and related business functions.

Bridge Legacy & Modern Systems

• Design and implement strategic integrations between modern cloud-native services and legacy enterprise systems.
• Support critical existing systems while driving long-term modernization efforts with minimal business disruption.
• Balance technical innovation with operational stability, risk management, and business continuity.

Drive an AI-First Engineering Culture

• Establish engineering standards for software design, code review, testing, deployment, and operational excellence.
• Champion AI-assisted development practices leveraging tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, and automated testing frameworks.
• Mentor engineers on AI-first workflows, modern development patterns, and cloud-native engineering practices.
• Partner with product owners, architects, and business leaders to scope solutions, evaluate tradeoffs, and maximize business impact.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field
• 8+ years of software engineering experience within SaaS, product engineering, fintech, healthcare technology, or cloud-native environments
• Deep experience designing and building cloud-native applications on Azure
• Strong experience with:
  • Event-driven architectures
  • Message queues and streaming platforms
  • Real-time data pipelines
  • APIs and distributed systems
  • Containers and microservices
• Expertise with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, Bicep, or Pulumi
• Strong background in CI/CD pipelines, automated deployments, and DevOps best practices
• Experience leading major platform rebuilds, migrations, or modernization initiatives
• Proficiency across multiple programming languages and modern engineering frameworks
• Active day-to-day use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar technologies
