Epilepsy position at UPMC in Pittsburgh, PA

The Department of Neurology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and UPMC is seeking a faculty in the Division of Epilepsy under the leadership of Dr. Page B. Pennell, Chair of Neurology and Dr. Vijayalakshmi Rajasekaran, Division Chief of Epilepsy. Must have completed at least two years of epilepsy fellowship and have significant experience in adult patients, including those with drug-resistant epilepsy. Must have an MD or equivalent and board certified in Neurology and Epilepsy with the ability to obtain an unrestricted PA license. Prior experience or a primary interest in genetics or clinical trials is encouraged but not required. Key Highlights - Become part of the epilepsy division within the Department of Neurology, with 12 adult epileptologist physicians, 4 Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), and 8 fellows each year. - Collaborate with a dedicated team of neurophysiologists, neurologists, dedicated neuroradiologist and psychiatrist, neuropsychologists, neuropsychiatrists, EEG technologists, APPs, epilepsy nurses and social workers. Together with Pediatric Epilepsy, the University of Pittsburgh Comprehensive Epilepsy Center (UPCEC) is accredited by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC) as a level 4 epilepsy center. - The UPCEC is a joint program combining the resources of the University of Pittsburgh, UPMC, and Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh (CHP). - Research funding for clinical, basic, data science, and translational studies in the department has increased steadily and in FY25 the department received over $25 million in research support. - Established in 1986, it provides national and regional referral and consultative services to Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, and beyond,. - Clinical services span outpatient clinics, EEG and continuous video-EEG monitoring across the UPMC network, and subspecialty clinics in functional seizures, RNS, women's epilepsy, and multi-disciplinary clinic with neurosurgery for epilepsy surgery candidates. - Research conducted at the Epilepsy Center has contributed to the introduction of multiple new antiseizure medications over the past decades, innovative approaches to presurgical evaluations and improving surgical outcomes for patients with drug-resistant epilepsy, signal processing of intracranial EEG activity, and advancing the treatment of women with epilepsy during reproductive years. - The Department of Neurology was awarded the NINDS UE5 to support research training of residents and fellows, "Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Neuropathology About the Community - Pittsburgh is a is a vibrant, mid-sized city with the feel of a small town.
