Reports To: Store Manager / Assistant Store Manager
Employment Type: Full-Time / Part-Time
Pay: $15–$25

Job Summary

The Shift Lead oversees store operations during assigned shifts when store management is not present, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations, staff coverage, customer service standards, and safety and security of the store, employees, and customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and direct associates during assigned shifts, including cashiers, stockers, and department staff.
• Open or close the store as scheduled, including cash handling, register counts, and securing the building.
• Ensure adequate staffing and coverage across registers and departments throughout the shift.
• Respond to and resolve customer questions, concerns, or complaints in a timely, professional manner.
• Monitor sales floor conditions, including cleanliness, stocking, pricing accuracy, and product presentation.
• Authorize and process register overrides, price checks, returns, and voids as needed.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, safety procedures, and loss prevention practices.
• Monitor and enforce food safety and sanitation standards in applicable departments.
• Assist with receiving, stocking, and inventory as needed.
• Report any equipment issues, safety hazards, or maintenance needs to store management.
• Communicate shift updates, issues, or incidents to the Store Manager.
• Step in to perform cashier, stocking, or department duties as needed to maintain store operations.
• Perform other duties as assigned by store management.

Qualifications

• Previous retail or grocery experience preferred; supervisory experience a plus.
• Ability to lead and motivate a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Basic cash handling and register experience.
• Ability to make sound decisions and resolve issues independently during a shift.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly, and up to 100 lbs occasionally.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to bend, reach, and move product throughout a shift.
• Ability to work in a variety of store conditions, including refrigerated/cold areas as needed.
