HVAC Control MechanicPennsylvania College of Technology is seeking a skilled HVAC Control Mechanic to support the maintenance, repair, and installation of heating, cooling, and refrigeration systems across campus facilities. This role ensures safe and efficient operation of boilers, chillers, air handlers, refrigeration units, and related electrical components, and plays a key role in maintaining a safe, comfortable learning environment. RequiredMust have a working, relevant knowledge of electrical systems and general electrical principles and practices. RequiredGraduation from a heating, air conditioning and refrigeration trade school or completion of a formal training program recognized by the industry and trade. PreferredEXPERIENCEFour (4) years of recent full-time experience as a commercial/industrial/institutional refrigeration and air conditioning mechanic. RequiredMust be able to demonstrate application and installation of electrical maintenance and systems. RequiredExperience in electrical maintenance and construction. RequiredExtensive experience in industrial maintenance/repair of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment. RequiredABILITIES AND SKILLSMust have a working knowledge of heating, refrigeration and air conditioning theory, practices and techniques, and applicable code regulations. RequiredMust be able to respond to emergency calls on a 24hour basis. RequiredMust possess a valid driver's license at all times. RequiredAbility to read diagrams, blueprints, and control prints. RequiredAbility to communicate problems and/or solutions to problems to other staff. RequiredPossession of current CFC certification (Classes I and II). PreferredResponsibilitiesAssist Supervisor of Heating, Cooling, and Plumbing Systems with maintenance of heating, cooling, and refrigeration equipment and supplies so as to assure proper environmental control in all College-owned facilities.Equipment includes but is not limited to: hot water boilers, steam boilers, warm air furnaces, air handlers with D.X. coils (direct expansion) and chilled water cooling coils, refrigeration compressors, condensers, chillers, large base-mounted pumps, walk-in refrigerators and freezersDiagnose heating and cooling problems/emergencies. Report and recommend to supervisor any corrective action(s) necessary relative to HVAC objectives.Repair, maintain and install electrical systems and equipment such as motors, transformers, controls, etc., consistent with all electrical requirements relevant to the maintenance of mechanical equipment and new College construction.Plan, lay out and install such electrical apparatus and equipment.Adjust and monitor combination oil and gas burners for efficient and smooth operation.Change hermetically-sealed compressors when needed.Change and adjust thermostatic expansion valves when needed.Repair and replace malfunctioning or worn components of existing refrigeration systems when needed.Evacuate refrigeration systems and properly recharge systems with correct refrigerant.Assist supervisor with the installation of new heating and cooling systems and extensions of same as needed.Establish and maintain equipment testing facilities for in-house utilization.Physical Standards and Special Job FeaturesExposure to dust, dirt, fumes, and some chemicals in HVAC products.May require climbing or working off of ladders and scaffolding.Lifting of 65 lbs. maximum without assistance with frequent lifting and carrying of objects up to 50 lbs.Pay Transparency$25.02 per hour.College StatementThis is not a complete itemization of all facets of this position.
