ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, STUDENT AFFAIRS / COLLEGE OF MEDICINE The associate director of student affairs is responsible for assisting in the overall administration and management of the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) within the Covenant Healthcare College of Medicine at Central Michigan University. The associate director coordinates and operates daily activities and events for the OSA, serves as the primary day‑to‑day contact for all medical students, and ensures a welcoming and inclusive environment. The role involves strategic planning, program development, event coordination, student engagement and wellness, budget management, policy creation, and liaison work with campus and community partners. The associate director represents the associate dean of student affairs in their absence and works closely with faculty, staff, and students across multiple campuses. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree, preferably in education, psychology, or a related field. Three years of experience in student affairs or a field related to higher education. Demonstrated experience with strategic planning and initiatives. Effective communication skills across varied platforms and audiences. Strong interpersonal skills with an emphasis on student‑centered services. Ability to resolve concerns and manage conflict with a high degree of satisfaction. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement programs and coordinate events. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks. High professional and ethical standards, with the ability to handle confidential or sensitive information. Ability to act independently to effectively address and triage emergent student concerns. Ability to build positive working relationships at all levels within an academic institution and commitment to a team‑oriented culture. Ability to travel to CMED regional and distributed campuses, including occasional evenings and weekends. Availability during evenings, weekends, and university closures as required. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in education, psychology, or a related field. Five years of student affairs or related higher education experience. Experience interpreting institutional, state, and federal policies and regulations. Experience with medical school student affairs. Experience with student engagement and wellness program planning and execution. Advanced understanding of best practices and professional mandates relating to student affairs administration. Familiarity with medical program curricula and the demands of medical education on student performance. Duties & Responsibilities Provide high‑level support to the associate dean of student affairs and represent the associate dean in their absence. Serve as the primary day‑to‑day contact for all M1/M2 students requiring assistance, information, and support. Create, maintain, and disseminate the annual calendar of projects and events, set weekly office workflow, assign tasks, and monitor progress. Act as the project manager for significant student events including M1 Orientation, White Coat Ceremony, and Graduation. Develop, manage, and coordinate student engagement programming for Student Interest Groups (SIGs), Medical Student Councils (MSCs), Student Senate, and student‑led committees; advise and provide leadership training. Oversee student elections and maintain a current list of active participants in student leadership. Manage all student programming for engagement, belonging, and wellness across all four years, including budgets, outcomes assessments, advertising, scheduling, volunteer opportunities, and reporting. Plan and monitor the effectiveness of activities relative to OSA goals and objectives. Maintain and oversee all print and online materials for the OSA, including handbooks, brochures, social media, website, and weekly communications. Act as liaison between the OSA, main campus entities, community groups, and other clinical sites. Triage and resolve student concerns/issues independently or with a team across distributed campuses (Mount Pleasant, Saginaw, Detroit, and Midland). Create and disseminate policies related to student engagement and wellness for M1/M2 medical students. Develop and manage budgets for special projects, student engagement, and wellness activities; assist in OSA budget review. Deliver educational lectures to CMED students during orientations, bridge week sessions, workshops, and engagement programming. Provide resources and references to students for campus and community assistance. Establish efficient data collection systems and implement new technologies for required reporting. Supervise front office staff through training, scheduling, professional development, and triage of concerns. Manage student pre‑matriculation requirements, compliance requirements (HIPAA, immunizations, mandatory trainings), and develop resources for M1/M2 students. Visit distributed campuses to conduct student engagement and wellness activities. Perform additional duties as assigned.
