Watch this video to see what the PA DOC has to offer you! Description of Work The Corrections' Nurse is responsible for the 24‑hour health care of offenders at their assigned institution. Duties may vary based on area of assignment. You will conduct physical assessments in response to offender ailments, establish a nursing diagnosis, and refer offenders to a practitioner. You will provide medication and treatment as ordered, monitor medication compliance, and observe the effectiveness of medication. You will provide health‑related education to staff and offenders and maintain department compliance for inspections. Work Hours and Additional Information: Full‑time employment, 5 days a week, 8‑hour shifts; 40‑hour work week. The Department of Corrections operates three shifts covering the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Work schedule is to be determined. Rotating days off. Position eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55. Telework: not available. Salary : Selected candidates new to employment within Pennsylvania begin at $88,130.00 annually. Temporary practice permit holders must obtain licensure within one year. PA residency requirement waived for this title. Graduating within 60 days of a nursing program approved by the State Board of Nursing: eligible to apply; must present valid PA temporary practice permit or license at appointment. Successful completion of basic training at Elizabethtown, PA required. You must be able to perform essential job functions.
