Position Overview

The client is seeking an experienced SAP System Administrator – Expert to serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for SAP HANA database administration and enterprise SAP Basis operations.

The selected candidate will be responsible for administering, maintaining, monitoring, and optimizing more than 100 production and non-production SAP HANA databases across a large, highly integrated enterprise SAP landscape. The role requires extensive hands-on expertise in SAP HANA database administration, SAP NetWeaver Basis administration across ABAP and Java environments, system performance tuning, high availability, disaster recovery, patching, upgrades, and system migrations.

The consultant will also support the ongoing migration of the enterprise SAP landscape to SAP NS2 (S/4HANA Cloud, Private Edition) , ensuring system stability, security, performance, and availability throughout the transition. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in enterprise SAP operations, production support, incident management, and cloud-based SAP infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the SAP HANA Subject Matter Expert (SME) for an enterprise SAP landscape supporting more than 100 production and non-production databases.
• Administer, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot SAP HANA databases to ensure high availability, reliability, and optimal performance.
• Perform SAP HANA installation, configuration, revision updates, patching, performance tuning, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery activities.
• Configure, monitor, and maintain SAP HANA System Replication to support high availability and business continuity.
• Administer SAP NetWeaver environments across both ABAP and Java stacks, including system configuration, transports, kernel updates, and Support Package Stack (SPS) maintenance.
• Coordinate and implement SAP technical changes, enhancements, patches, upgrades, and maintenance activities across development, quality assurance, and production environments.
• Execute SAP HANA system refreshes, database refreshes, system copies, and migration-related activities supporting the transition to SAP NS2.
• Monitor database performance, resource utilization, storage capacity, and system health, proactively identifying and resolving potential issues.
• Participate in the duty manager and on-call rotation to provide operational support, incident response, and production issue resolution.
• Perform daily morning system health checks and prepare operational status reports.
• Serve as the assigned SAP Basis liaison for SAP Solution Manager problem messages, incident investigations, and technical problem resolution.
• Troubleshoot complex SAP infrastructure, database, connectivity, and performance issues across integrated enterprise systems.
• Support SAP landscape migration and modernization initiatives, including S/4HANA Cloud, Private Edition, SAP RISE, or SAP NS2 environments, as applicable.
• Collaborate with application teams, infrastructure teams, database administrators, security teams, and external service providers to maintain reliable SAP operations.
• Follow established change management, release management, security, backup, recovery, and operational procedures.
• Maintain technical documentation, system configurations, troubleshooting records, and operational procedures.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of hands-on SAP HANA database administration experience , including installation, configuration, patching, performance tuning, backup and recovery, and System Replication.
• Minimum 8 years of SAP NetWeaver Basis administration experience across ABAP and Java stacks.
• Strong experience with SAP kernel upgrades, Support Package Stack updates, transports, system copies, refreshes, and performance troubleshooting.
• Minimum 5 years of enterprise SAP production operations experience , including on-call support, daily system health checks, incident management, and problem resolution.
• Demonstrated experience supporting large-scale, business-critical SAP environments with high availability and operational reliability requirements.
• Experience with SAP Solution Manager and resolving technical incidents and problem messages.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, communication, documentation, and stakeholder coordination skills.
• Ability to manage multiple technical priorities while maintaining production system stability.
• Must currently reside in North Carolina and be available to work at the designated Raleigh, NC location as required.

Preferred Qualifications

• SAP Certified Technology Associate – SAP HANA (e.g., C_HANATEC) or an equivalent SAP HANA certification.
• SAP certification or equivalent expertise in SAP NetWeaver System Administration / OS-DB administration.
• Experience with SAP RISE, SAP NS2, or S/4HANA Cloud, Private Edition migrations.
• Experience with SAP Solution Manager technical monitoring, Change Request Management (ChaRM), and/or SAP Focused Run.
• Experience administering SAP landscapes hosted on AWS, including AWS GovCloud.
• Knowledge of cloud infrastructure components, including networking, storage, backup, and recovery integration.
• Experience supporting SAP systems in public-sector, FedRAMP, or GovRAMP-regulated environments.
• Experience integrating SAP with OpenText document management solutions.
• Experience with SAP BW on HANA, SAP CRM, SAP GRC/Access Control, or SAP Enterprise Portal.

Required Skills:

Minimum 5 years of experience in SAP HANA database administration, including installation, configuration, patching, performance tuning, backup and recovery, and System Replication.

Minimum 3 years of experience in SAP OS/DB migrations, upgrades, S/4HANA conversions, or SAP landscape migrations to SAP RISE, SAP NS2, or similar cloud environments.

Minimum 2 years of experience administering SAP landscapes on AWS or comparable cloud platforms, including networking, storage, backup, and recovery integration.
