Join the WCIRB! We are seeking an experienced and business-minded attorney to join our in-house legal team as Counsel. This role provides practical legal guidance and strategic counsel across a range of business and operational matters. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Serve as a key advisor to internal business stakeholders and executive leadership on a broad range of compliance, risk management, contractual, operational and business matters. Draft, review and negotiate a variety of agreements and legal documents, such as contracts, regulations filings and policy endorsement forms, to ensure compliance with applicable laws. Manage intellectual property matters, including trademark and copyright filings and other portfolio matters. Manage outside counsel involvement on legal matters, including administrative appeals before the California Department of Insurance Support internal quality assurance, governance and continuous improvement initiatives across the WCIRB. Partner cross-functionally with executive leadership and business teams to support organizational objectives and initiatives. Monitor and advise on evolving legal and regulatory developments affecting the WCIRB and California’s workers’ compensation insurance system. Education, Experience and Skill Qualifications Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school. Minimum of 2 years of legal experience, including experience in-house and/or at a law firm. Ability to identify and assess legal risk, develop practical business-oriented solutions and implement effective risk mitigation strategies by synthesizing complex information and providing clear, well-reasoned guidance in collaboration with business partners. Excellent interpersonal, communication and relationship-building skills. Strong analytical, writing and problem-solving skills, with sound judgment and attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively. Preferred Qualifications Experience in the insurance industry and/or workers’ compensation matters is a strong plus. Familiarity with regulatory and compliance issues related to insurance operations.
