Historic Site Manager II (NS)
This position is responsible for the overall leadership of House in the Horseshoe State Historic Site including long range planning, development of new interpretive strategies, development of programs, conceptual planning, networking with regional travel organizations, developing and implementing a marketing plan, and establishing and directing site mission and goals. Responsibilities include supervision of three permanent staff positions; overall preservation and maintenance of the site; facilitating long-term goals; purchasing necessary equipment and supplies, coordinating development of interpretive programs and special events; conducting tours and interpretive demonstrations as part of visitor services, giving general on-site and off-site presentations as requested; conducting appropriate artifact management and care techniques; researching topics for specific projects; coordinating media, marketing and public relations to promote the site; completing reports and submitting to appropriate staff. This position is also responsible for the overall budget of the site and for working with local historical groups, convention and visitor bureaus, and with the site support group to promote and raise awareness of the site. Work is performed independently and is evaluated by the Piedmont Region Supervisor. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to: program and project development and management, staff supervision, special event planning, development and administration of educational programs, long- and short-term site planning.
Candidates who possess the following are preferred:
- Knowledge of Early American, Revolutionary, and/or North Carolina history.
Position/Physical Requirements:
- Must be available to work the schedule of Monday - Friday 8:30am - 5:00pm with occasional nights and weekends
- Ability to lead walking tours over uneven terrain
- Ability to talk to large groups for a prolonged amount of time
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions

Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in history or a field specifically related to the site of employment from an appropriately accredited institution AND one year of experience in managing the operation of a historic site, in historical research or interpretation, or in a field specifically related to the site of employment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
